Pink Floyd - The early years 1965-1972 box set

While you can get CD-Rs that can burn in the 90-99 minute range, the Compact Disc Digital Audio standard maxes out at 80 minutes.

So the discs in the collection can fit just fine, but The Wall and Ummagumma are just slightly too long.

Here is an example of a CD from 1989 that is longer than The Wall, clocking at 82:58 (see "Total time", lower left; I also have at least two more like this that are actually longer than Ummagumma).

I assume they are just like those 90 minutes CD-Rs that you can buy to burn things yourself, but released by a record company as a prerecorded product. They are not standard 74 min or 80 min, but I never had any playback issues with them, and the sound quality is exactly the same.

You know - even if I could afford it - I still wouldn't buy it on general principle. The price is ridiculous.

I hope they decide to offer a digital version of the entire box set (audio and video content) for sale as well via iTunes and alike. That would bring down the price at least 50% (and probably more).

Nick Mason stated that Pink Floyd collaborated with ease with Roger Waters on the box set: "It was very easy because [Roger Waters] was enthusiastic with both our boxset and the Victoria and Albert exhibition. If he is positive about it it's really easy because he is flowing with ideas for it. It only gets difficult if he doesn't want to do it."

Doubt that they'll include the whole set digitally... I think they'll rather go with 2cd compilation, it sounds like a better strategy...

Yeah I think a digital version of the 2CD set is much more likely and honestly I don't think the pricing of the boxset is really that out of line with what ever seeing from many other bands, especially when you consider the vinyl reissues included.

The CD length issue is a big positive for me as well, actually filling up the disks as much as possible rather than spreading them across multiple disks and either upping the price of cutting out some material.

So the video content is the same thing twice in each volume (on one DVD and one Blu-ray disc). I was wondering about that... They should've done a single dual-sided DVD/Blu-ray flipper disc instead in each volume (these are around since 2009), that would've saved 7 discs and brought the price down.

Do we get the toy van as well?

It is because of clips like this showing up, and like the Scott Page video stuff, that I think they are looking to making another box set of the later years.
