Re: Best albums released since 1990?
MAN, at least 14 of those you listed have been in my CD player in the last few weeks. Crazy. I adore the Black Crowes, and "Amorica" and "Southern Harmony" are my favorites by them.NewEarthMud wrote:It's hard to think of them all but here's some albums that I think have been the best... no ranking system here..
and I probably left off some but those come to mind..
all are worth checking out if you haven't heard them
You mentioned Wilco's "Being There"--which is FANTASTIC STUFF--have you heard the "Mermaid Avenue" records? Two records of Billy Bragg and Wilco playing previously unrecorded Woody Guthrie tunes. Amazing stuff.
One of my favorite "modern" bands also is Modest Mouse. Isaak Brock (singer/guitar player/songwriter) is simply a genius, IMHO. I also really dug Blind Melon...and Faith No More...as far as post-1990 stuff.

Aw man, but you guys are kinda overlooking some great indie stuff. Not that I don't agree with what is listed...and was overjoyed to see the Crowes and Wilco...there's some great great great stuff that gets overlooked a lot. And mosespa...the fact that you listed Mr. Bungle and Faith No More just scored you major brownie points with me! LOL. I *adore* Mike Patton. Although I don't think "Siamese Dream" was the best Pumpkins record (though it's GREAT, don't get me wrong)...but at least you mentioned those guys...love those Pumpkins.

Mike Patton is a melodic genius in my book.
I've heard two of his solo albums and "Adult Themes For Mouth" is not only inventive and funny, but also quite good from a melodic standpoint. Some of those pieces would have made GREAT songs if he had developed them fully with a band.
La Tranzista Provonzola...or whatever the hell it's called impressed me to no end. To see that Patton could write something in such a "traditional classical" style that was still melodic and held my interest was most impressive.
I say again...Mike Patton is a GOD!!!
