i don't want to get this thread off on a tangent, but...simpledumbpilot wrote:Trekker???davidjay wrote:please do not refer to me as a "trekkie" i don't own any rubber spock ears!
i've been watching star trek since it was on network tv here in the us back in the sixties. (yes, i'm that damn old) in the seventies i refered to myself as a "trekkie". there weren't very many of us back then.
in the eighties, after the advent of "the next generation" the term "trekkie" became synonymus with "dweeb", "spaz", "geek", "dork" and a host of other unflattering terms. those of us who had actually lost our virginity and had moved out of our parent's basements switched to the term "trekker" because it was somehow cooler.
then it happened again. the "trekkies" became "trekkers" and started having starfleet weddings at sci-fi conventions and named their children "spock", or "odo" or "seven" or "t'pol" or whatever, and ruined it for the rest of us. not all star trek fans have an overwhelming desire to learn klingonese and dress up like a mugatu.
that being said, i'm just i star trek fan. that's it. i gave up the "trekkie/trekker" thing about 20 years ago. once i started seeing star trek memorabilia for sale on the "home shopping network" i knew it was time to get off the bandwagon.
okay, sorry for hijacking the thread. let's get back to our regularly scheduled program.... where were we again? oh yes, npf tribute vol 2 titles. how about "warm thrill of confusion"?
live long and prosper!
