Am I right in saying that the plane crashing into the wall at the end of 'In the Flesh?' did not happen in Berlin?

Thanks for quick answer. So why no plane? Surely it would've not been beyond the crew to at least have it fly over part of the massive crowd?

Re: Roger Waters - Live In Berlin 1990
It's never been addressed that I know of, but it could have had something to do with the fact that Roger's "former bandmates" were still using a variation of that "gag" on their AMLOR tour.
I believe that by that tour, it had become a bed; but would return to being a plane by the TDB tour.
Just a thought.

Another thought:
Maybe it was simply technically difficult to guide the plane over the heads of over 250.000 people in a completely open venue?

I'm afraid that the way the question was phrased negates the answer you gave, Hudini...which is why I ventured into speculation.Peter Beasley wrote:Thanks for quick answer. So why no plane? Surely it would've not been beyond the crew to at least have it fly over part of the massive crowd?
That's going to cost you $200, but you're still in control of the board...pick another category.

there was plenty of real planes flying overhead at the Berlin show, they were more impressive than the crashing toy plane-slash-hospital bed

i thought the live in Berlin idea was a really good one - i thought the guest artists and the location breathed new life into the album.

Re: Roger Waters - Live In Berlin 1990
Well, the question itself is a speculation. I don't know whether it would be beyond the crew to fly it or not, but I believe it would have been difficult. Without a proper starting point for the plane and the cord on which it would move, they would have had to use a remote controlled one with a real engine, which is really not a thing you would like to crash above someone's head, especially not yours. There could be other explanations but I do believe that this one is the simplest. And the simplest explanations are usually the right ones, at least by Occam's Razor.mosespa wrote:I'm afraid that the way the question was phrased negates the answer you gave, Hudini...which is why I ventured into speculation.Peter Beasley wrote:Thanks for quick answer. Could they not have had a cord rigged up extending just a couple of hundred metres or so into to the audience to one of the PA stations perhaps? They'd managed to fly the plane some pretty long distances before. Knebworth '75 for example - must have been a run of at least 200 metres.

They could have. But I guess if they did it that way it would have ruined the element of surprise. The plane would have been hanging over people's heads from the start and everyone would just stare at it and wait for it to go off. I know I would.

Well that's what happened at Knebworth in '75. The plane was clearly visible in it's starting position throughout the day and during 'On the Run' eyes were trained away from the stage waiting for the plane's descent. It probably still surprised many though.
I was at Earls Court in May '73 when they used the plane for the first time. Now THAT was a surprise.

Awesome album.
With the exception of Brick 2 with Cindi Lauper, the album is fantastic.
Sinead OConner is fantastic in Mother.
The Thin Ice is better than the studio version.
Brick 1 is fantastic when Roger yells "DADDY WHATD YOU LEAVE BEHIND FOR ME".
Nobody Home is awesome when crowd sings along with "13 channels of shit of the tv to choose from". The extra guitar solo on this song not on the studio album is awesome.
The fact that Roger is losing his voice makes the album better.
ARE THERE ANY QUEERS IN THE THEATRE TONITE? Roger gasps it out.
Scorps with the opening number: In the Flesh? is fricking awesome.
Brick 3 is great.
Great great version of the world's greatest album.
