Re: Syd Barrett - An Introduction to Syd Barrett
I mistakenly asked when this thread would be created in the Wouldn't You Miss Me thread...well, here it is. I would say this album is a good replacement for Wouldn't You Miss Me (which can now be deleted from print).
Rhamadam, the bonus download was great, just wish it was in a higher bitrate.

Re: Syd Barrett - An Introduction to Syd Barrett
It is what it is. I think Best Ofs are targeted towards two audiences. People who've not bought very much, if any, of the artist's work before and completionists. There's nearly always a new track or a new mix on these to reel them in, isn't there? I like the new improved version of Here I Go. Then of course there was the first official release of Rhamadam though the jury's still out on that one.
In general, it has the more accessible side to Syd Barrett on here and that's not a bad thing for doing what it describes. Showing that the man could pen tuneful songs which to me, are of far more merit than wailing dirges like If It's In You. Leaving aside some quibbles about track listings, it's not a bad compilation of his work.

I voted 4, but would rather say 4,5. It's got many of the essential songs, but minus Vegetable Man and the "goodbye-Pink" song Jugband Blues, and second, it would be interesting to see a mixed tracklist, - solo and Floyd stuff mixed to see how it fits.

Re: Syd Barrett - An Introduction to Syd Barrett
making the previously unreleased bonus track only available as a download means I dont have to buy the album
Floyd marketers please take note of how you lost my $15- this time, it couldnt be simpler
then these exact same marketers are going to be the ones complaining downloads are killing the cd market - headline that press release Duh!

Thank you. Well, that's something for a change... maybe now Floyds will start releasing the unreleased.

Re: Syd Barrett - An Introduction to Syd Barrett
yes, in spite of the lukewarm reactions on that thread, the release of a previously unheard 20minute Floydian instrumental is significant
just too bad its not actually on the cd

Yes, the best thing to come out of all this, and is not even on the CD!J Ed wrote:yes, in spite of the lukewarm reactions on that thread, the release of a previously unheard 20minute Floydian instrumental is significant

It sounds like a jazzier take on the whole interstellar jam idea. I quite liked it.
Moom, I think that if you bought the CD you can legally download the 20 minute jam from the website, right?

I played this CD at work a few weeks ago. I'm right next door to a Starbucks cafe and all the music I play filters out to them. I like to freak the Starbucks crowd out every once in awhile.
