1994 - Was The Division Bell hyped?
So for those that remember the album coming out, how hyped was it? Was it given the same indifference that we would offer a new Rolling Stones album? Or were the press and fans in a lot of anticiapation?

Re: Was it hyped
Well after "Momentary Lapse of Reason" and "Delicate Sound of Thunder" toured for 2+ years and a few videos like "Learning To Fly" that got airplay on MTV, a truly *great* promotion campaign wasn't neccesary. But of course there were ad campaigns, radio show interviews and such-- there was quite a resurgance of PF popularity without Rog, and the money was rolling in. It didn't need "hype."

Back in the early 90s, before the internet went massive, the media was more mono-thematic. The only hype I can remember from 1994 was all about Grunge and Kurt Cobain dying, at least here across the pond. They did air the High Hopes video occasionally, and you can blame that video for getting a lot of teenagers my age into Pink Floyd back then.

Re: 1994 - Was The Division Bell hyped?
I remember seeing commercials on teevee, and cds and cassettes beside the cash register at 7-11
the teevee commercial used a fragment of What Do You Want From Me
so it was very much hyped where I was living at the time,
but perhaps the marketers considered Vancouver a richer potential market for a Floyd revival, certainly it was easier to get in the correct state of mind for a new Floyd album in Vancouver than some other cities I've lived in if you catch my drift

I thought it was quite hyped if you listened to what has become classic rock stations. Also, you could win tickets in a case of beer. Wasn't there a VW promotion too??

Thanks for adding the press conference footage Damn!t. Never seen that before. Always amazes me how the press constantly ask the same old questions..

I wasn't born then, but methinks it wasn't "hyped", though there might have been a fair amount of advertising.
At any rate, it wasn't overhyped.

I don't remember any hype or press or anything. I only remember myself and my friends looking forward to it and the concert. From my perspective the PF creations exist outside the mainstream despite their huge commercial success.

You hardly get to number one spot on both sides of the Atlantic without at least some promotion. Even the biggest bands in the world don't always reach that place in the charts.
MariahZ, I just have to say it you look way too young to have already been a fan back then. That's a compliment

I remember a Polish satellite radio station called RMF FM had a Pink Floyd day, culminating in the entire Division Bell album being played. This was on 27th March 1994.
On 30th March 1994 a U.S. radio station played the entire album as an "Official world premiere". Presumably the RMF FM one was unofficial then!

I'll watch it later anyway, but is that Jarvis Cocker in the thumbnail?
