MoreOrLess wrote:Personally I'v always thought that the band would have been best suited putting them out on Saucerful, something like...
Saucerful of Secrets
Side A
Let There Be More Light
Vegetable Man
Corporal Clegg
Scream Thy Last Scream
Jugband Blues
Side B
Set the Controls For The Heart Of The Sun
Remember a Day
Saucerful of Secrets
One side devoted to frayed nerve psychedelica marking the end of that era and the other the more expansive sound of where the band was going.
That's a nifty tracklist, I like the idea of each side having it's own different feel.
My version of 'Saucerful of Secrets: redux" includes outtakes/singles and one song that Syd worked on in 1968 for early 'Madcap Laughs' sessions, and focuses more on songs (shock horror - no room for the lengthy title track! )
Side 1:
Let there be more light
Remember a day
Set the controls for the heart of the sun
See saw
Late night
Side 2
It would be so nice
Apples and oranges (note: instead of issuing it as a single in late 1967, they re-record it with the kinks/bad production ironed out)
Paintbox
Julia Dream
Scream thy last scream
Jugband blues
In that scenario, the late 1967 single would be Vegetable Man b/w Reaction in G.
First single off the album would be Let there be more Light b/w Corporal Clegg
Second Single would be Paint Box b/w Swan Lee (Silas Lang)
Then a 3rd (non album) single of Point me at the sky b/w Careful with that Axe Eugene as per normal
Mind you, with the box set coming out soon, that may change.. I think the post-Piper late 1967-1968's work is gonna get a massive reappraisal (akin to the Who Sell Out sessions) when this comes out.
I love that period of Pink Floyd already, but I know many fans that dismiss it as "rubbish compared to Piper" (some Syd fans) or "rubbish compared with what they went on to do" (Classic era Pink Floyd fans)
