Re: I can't believe this forum still exists
I was going through old emails recently and I found a bunch from the mid 2000's relating to NPF vines and various bootleg trades and requests. It's so crazy to think about how a lot of bootlegs were shared before the torrent and direct download sites got so big.

I miss the torrents, not sure they harmed anyone or commercial interests. I guess the people downloading studio albums and the like probably spoiled it for everyone.

I doubt downloading/sharing bootlegs affected the sales of official CDs and DVDs to any noticeable extent. Most fans who went to the trouble of seeking out ROIOs would probably have bought the original albums anyway. Especially when most Pink Floyd bootlegs wouldn't win prizes for sound quality. It'd be nice if they cleaned up more live recordings and released them officially but I doubt that's going to happen

Indeed, it was very sad there was such a clampdown. I liked listening to the recordings, like the Dark Side of the Moon live shows where the songs were played quite differently to how they turned out on the studio album. Sad.

Back in the early noughties, when I signed up to NPF, it was hard to imagine that almost 20 years later we'll get most of those traded bootlegs in studio quality in sets such as Early years or the upcoming Later years.
But, the difference is that, for example, I've listened "BBC LIve 1971" CD-R received in a trade more times than I listened the official version in the EY set...

I just rediscovered this forum less than half an hour ago and logged in for the 1st time in 9 years. Even somehow remembered my username and password.

Hello everybody! It's been about 11 years since I last logged in. I joined forum back in dec 2002. Not using any forums nowadays. Sad to say I haven't bought any physical CD:s for ages, I guess the last one was Fleetwood Macs Tusk. In January I bought LP from Finnish indieband, which blends quite nicely Finnish Finnhits-style with progrock. I think that because of Spotify I have not bought any records anymore, I don't even have a proper cd-player anymore.
So strange that when I first logged in this forum I was 20 and now I'm waiting to be 40...

NPF and MySpace deserve their place in the future 'Museum of the Internet'.
