The Final Cut is as much Roger Waters Pink Floyd as MLOR is David Gilmours Pink Floyd. I'm sure they had more fun and play during the touring of MLOR then they did for the studio of TFC.
David Gilmour's Pink Floyd:
a faceless team of other songwriters and musicians
David Gilmour in 1987 (probably):
That's Floyd sounding enough - let the money to roll right in.
TFC, MLOR and TDB are Pink Floyd albums, whether we like it or not, they LEGALLY are PF albums, published by Pink Floyd Music Ltd under the LEGAL banner "Pink Floyd"...
If they are PF albums MORALLY, that's another thing...
An album is more than the album itself, its the tour as well. The 3 toured together as a band. And performed all of the old songs, and mixxing some from MLOR... If it were a David Gilmour solo album then Nick wouldnt be involved. Maybe a special guest, one song... but not all the tracks that needed drums. When David tours a solo album he plays the old Floyd songs, but he doesnt have the other members with him. There is your difference I say.
