The Embryo

Post by andeerik »

I'm a huge fan of Embryo, and do have many versions of it. I'm actually not sure which I like best, but I would like to ask you guys out there: what's you're favorite Embryo performance?

The 26:34 version on Obscurity (1970 recording?) is interesting because it is so long...I think Dave was in his own universe that night.

Embryo live is great!

http://www.orangemaze.com has all of the lyrics, i believe.

- My favorite version is from 1970-06-26, with the pict ranting and the strong bass.

your link's a dud but according to the hyperbase the lyrics are

All this love is all I am
A ball is all I am
I'm so new compared to you
And I am very small

Warm glow, moon glow
Always need a little more room

Waiting here seems like years
Never seen the light of day

All around I hear strange sounds come
gurgling in my ear
Red the light and dark the night
I feel my dawn is near

Warm glow, moon glow
Always need a little more room

Whisper low here I go
I will see the sunshine show

I wouldn't stake my life on it, but I've always thought that line was -

"Lung glow, womb gloom
Always need a little more room"

It seems to make more sense to me, given the nature of the song.

My fave version is that from the bootleg called On Top Of The World. It's a compilation of songs from Electric Factory, Sept. 1970 and Pepperland, Oct. 1970.

I have to agree - very psychedelic.

That sure is the best version I ever heard, it's one hell of a jam! Strange tho: The Obscurity roio is supposed to be the same concert as the roio titled One Of Those Days (it's from 20 nov 1971). The version on One Of Those Days is over 27 minutes long. It could be just a speed correction, I don't know, or is it a different concert? I can't check this out since I only own One Of Those Days.

Can anyone clarify this?

Same concert, except speed corrected. The closest embryo to the 26 minute version is 17 minutes long.

Just on performance i'd say my favourite is San Deigo 71, very powerful plus they do an alternate jam in the middle because they'd already done the seagul section in Echoes.

if I have it right, that 71 version is a good one...actually any live version of this song is good.
