Re: Nick Mason to perform early Pink Floyd with new band
good idea, in terms of Mason getting to have some fun. Seems like he's been on the sidelines for so long, except for endless river, and itching to get back out there. very few, small venue shows, though. I wonder if he will keep it up after that. Shame about the time difference, no chance for tickets for me. It might've been a push, though, seeing Mason just for completeness (never got to see Wright either), and early Floyd is not my thing.
I noticed that they advertise it as his first live outing since Live 8, which is not true at all (guest with Roger, Syd concert, Olympics...)

I am sure it is only four shows for now because Mason wants to gauge the interest, see how it goes. I agree that they should keep it to small (500 people) avenues, given the nature of the material.

It might be a blessing in disguise, impetus for more.

I only wish him well, hope I one day see him do this. I hope he really goes for it, does a huge tour and even does the "Classic Album In Full" which is big with tribute acts.

Re: Nick Mason to perform early Pink Floyd with new band
I can't wait to see the setlist. We might get A Nice Pair in concert, together with The Early Singles (sans any duplication) and possibly some 1965-68 numbers from The Early Years 1965–1972.
While I wouldn't hold my breath for "It Would Be So Nice" (to cite Nick Mason directly, "Fucking awful, that record, wasn't it?"), I am curious if he will be tempted to repeat his lead vocal on "Scream Thy Last Scream"
Guy Pratt could have a field day with "Let There Be More Light" intro, if they do play it.

From the topic 'Stuff We Can Make Up About Pink Floyd...':
In the Rolling Stone interview, by Andy Green, 2014, Mason adds:
May 07, 2016, Wolfpack wrote:Now David Gilmour and Polly Samson are no longer members of Pink Floyd,
the band will continue as a one man's band consisting of Nick Mason alone.
And as such, there are rumours about a new Pink Floyd album,
followed by a worldwide 'The Grand Vizier's Garden Party Tour'.

God knows I'll be out on the road playing the entirety of Dark Side of the Moon, just the drum parts. It'll be quite dull."

"Please know that I'm joking. I can see the headline now, "Nick Mason to Tour."

Am I the only one who likes that song? I fully recognize that it isn't a good song, but it's certainly a fun one.Hadrian wrote:While I wouldn't hold my breath for "It Would Be So Nice" (to cite Nick Mason directly, "Fucking awful, that record, wasn't it?"), I am curious if he will be tempted to repeat his lead vocal on "Scream Thy Last Scream"
Now THAT, I want to see. One of the reasons I love the version of "Money" on P.U.L.S.E. is because of the bass lines Pratt plays in the middle section.Hadrian wrote:Guy Pratt could have a field day with "Let There Be More Light" intro, if they do play it.

I also don't think the song is so terrible either, but I find Mason's take on the band's first 7" after Barrett's departure very amusing. The only thing more amusing are Gilmour's evaluations of Atom Heart Mother album ("a pile of rubbish" and "shit").

Re: Nick Mason to perform early Pink Floyd with new band
Excellent news all round I think. Curious to know whether Nick can still knock out some of the rhythms he used in early Floyd (thinking of the furious work on Set the Controls). Maybe that's where Lee Harris comes in?
I think the key to this band and these gigs being successful will be how faithful the rendition of Syd and Rick's work is. Syd's guitar style (and voice) were so important to the early Floyd sound so I'd hope Gary Kemp, Lee Harris and Dom Beken are fully prepped. It goes without saying Guy can handle all of Rogers riffs and more.
A live DVD please Nick?????
