Need help for understanding lyrics

In "Amused to Death" song by Roger Waters, there are some words and phrases, I cannot find any meaning or reference:

"The celebrity of the abused shell the belle."

What does ot mean? What's shell the belle?

"And the children of Melrose Strut their stuff. Is absolute zero cold enough."

Who are children of Melrose? What is absolute zero reffering to?

Melrose is a place in Massachusetts. Probably at that time was involved in fashion. Couldn't find anything recent.
No idea what he's going on about with "abused shell".

Melrose Place is an American prime time television soap opera about group of teenagers and belle would be the most attractive and beautiful girl or woman, from a particular event - "The celebrity of the abused shell the belle."

"And the children of Melrose Strut their stuff. Is absolute zero cold enough."

All this is an irony as children of Melrose place are described in soap opera as very happy kids with no real problems so there you have
