Montreux Casino DL

Post by nosaj »

:D Good one! It compliments the CWTAE video DL that was up a couple of months ago (did you see the veins on Roger's arms? ). I was born four months after this concert, so could never see the PF period I like the most. Cymbaline was interesting live in this period, I imagine there must have been a video projection for it. Does anyone know much about this?

That era of the band was awesome! ('69-'71) Every song was an experiment to them and could change a bit every time they played it. WOW, that's now my favorite version of Fat Old Sun now.....brilliant!

No video projection though..........that didn't come around to '74

I agree with that ^ - i also think 1972 and such are great years, also, but that's beside the point.

Good concert, soundboard recording (there is only one video recording of cymbaline, and that's from 1970-04-29). One of my favorite versions of Fat Old Sun, my favorite being from 1970-11-12, this has a decent ASOS and green is the colour, too bad they're from different sources and the sound quality is much worse.

Problem with the link to the last two tracks.
Is this the server problem referred to?

The shotcut to Embyo appeared when I went onto the page again but even if I stand on one leg while pressing ctrl F5 I cannot get the last track.

I have also deleted temporary internet files just to be sure that i am getting the latest page.

The last track is not on the server any more. I had to take it off because my ISP threatened to turn off my broadband and my webhost said they would close my site down if i didnt reduce data transfer.

The last track will probably go on tomorrow.

Keith - just like to add my thanks for this DL, its absolutely brilliant!

Perhaps I'm just biased because I remember seeing them from this period, but it seems to me that this was Floyd at their creative peak. Their work from this era was always ahead of the game and experimental. They were at their best (IMHO) when creating long extended soundscapes rather than doing shorter numbers. Contrast the Montreux versions of Fat Old Sun & Cymbaline with the official album versions (good though they are).

I'm not knocking the later work much of which is excellent, but the emphasis changed from creating wonderfully free, extemporised pieces which work on a gut level, to much more rigidly structured and introspective songs which, although perhaps more intellectualy satisfying, lack the emotional impact of the earlier stuff.

Even after 33 years this music still sounds wonderfully fresh and AHM brings me out in goosebumps every time. You've made this boring old fart very happy! Can't wait for the rest of this to be posted online (unless it includes a live version of Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast!!).

yeah, thanks mate. I just bought a cd a fortnight ago(?5 from a cd fare) "a night at montreaux" i might have saved a couple of quid if id waited.
Only joking. The cd i've got is really good quality(not a cdr) and ive always liked the blues bits the floyd done early on.
Its nice to get hold of great live performances.

For Keith I guess

Not sure where to post this, But... I noticed in the news letter that another site had been leeching off you... well I downloaded the last two songs from disc 1 from another site, and the origin was from this site! , I thought about informing you, but I'm not sure who might be buddy sites...

...what are your feelings about this sort of thing? - I didn't know they were leeching, but really wondered was up... I like this site
