Royal Orchestra

Post by Reakwon »

Hi There.

Just bought that CD:
THE ROYAL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA plays HITS OF PINK FLOYD

Image

I downloaded some orchestra plays floyd songs, but they are pretty crappy IMHO

I bought that one now on ebay for 1$, and i was shocked, how superb that one is... I think it's because they also use guitar and drums in it.. not only orchestra.. The guitar sound is excellent (you wonder, if it isn't DG playing it :D ) very well aranged stuff... similar to Metallica S&M

I love the cd..

If anybody get a chance to get this in a store: GO FOR IT: it's worth!!

Playlist:

1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (9:40)
2. Money (5:02)
3. Us & Them (6.13)
4. Hey You (4:27)
5. ABITW (6:51)
6. Wish You Were Here (4:23)
7. Time (5:51)
8. The Great Gig In The Sky (4:12)
9. In The Flesh (4:07)

Greetings, Markus

I have one orchestral PF album called "Us And Them". Some tracks on it are good (Breathe is fantastic), some not.

got that too, but don't like it that much, coz it's just the orchestra.
no drums, guitar and so on.

but breathe is great, indeed

Thats one of the things I really liked about it, it really is a true orchestral version, I tend to find the inclusion of drums and guitar in orchestral remakes too reminiscent of those ''Classic Rock'' albums that came out in the early 80s (those ones with the viking on and so on) which I really couldnt get on with, they just seemed too close to lift music for me. But thats not to say I dont like the combination of orchestra and rock tho but normally when the original version of a song appears in that manner the orchestral arrangements are usually written to weave into the barebones of the song which is often done to fantastic effect.
