On an interview with Roger Waters, back in 2002 for the New Indian Express, Roger said that David Gilmour suggested for the "Echoes" album before its release the name of "Sum of the Parts", but Roger didn?t like it because he thought it was pretty poor........what do you think? Personally, I don?t dislike the name....

sum of parts sounds ok but I guess we're all used to echoes so it would sound better its like sayinh pink floyd should have been called something else.

I really like the name. Better and more appropriate than 'Echoes'. It's possibly Gilmour's greatest achievment.

I like them both.
Echoes because the songs on the album look back to a great time. That time is gone, but the echoes are still with us, something like that
Sum of the parts because the history of Pink Floyd is separated in parts, The Barrett-part, Waters-part, etc.

I have always loved the title Echoes,it's great for the track Echoes, but i think "The Sum Of The Parts"was actually an alternitive name for the track Echoes, when they were making it,as well as "Nothing, parts 1-20" "The Sun Of Nothing" and "The Return To The Son Of Nothing" and i think "Opus 1",and there are a few others, but i can't remember them.

ECHOES is the best choice.
The echo of a distant...
Because the sum might be greater than the parts, rather than mearely the sum of the parts.
The voice in your head is kind of an echo of you.

I thought Gilmour had suggested a pun on the phrase "Sum of the parts" and that his suggestion was actually "SOME of the parts."
Sounds to me like a desperate attempt to sound intelligent.
Mind you...Gilmour is STILL my guitar idol.

Gotta admit i think In The Flesh would have been a better name than Sum Of The Parts or Echoes

Seeing as Roger has a release of the same name I don't think it would have worked....how about 'Pink Floyd coin in yet more money by doing absolutely nothing' - it's a lot more apt...
