Well...I think you may have misunderstood my original thoughts on the money/creativity thing. I just realized that, actually. Maybe not though.
I have that book. I have all his screenplays also, except "Jersey Girl"...but I will get that. And I can't wait to see the film when it's out.
I thought he did a pretty good job with directing in "Clerks". The look and the feel of it seems to be very intentionally cult film looking, if you will.
Have you ever seen "Zentropa" by Lars Von Trier? Unrelated to "Clerks" but that just came to mind. Great film.
Martin Scorcese and Francis Ford Coppola rock

Not seen that film yet no.
I feel the main strength of Kevin Smith aside from the drama moments is his use of the english language and the aimless trivial conversations that made clerks so good. The reason i don't support chasing amy in being as good as clerks is because it didn't really have any of these, but the way the clerks were shown to spend their day speaking aimlessly was just great. Especially the bit with the customer and the nudie booth conversation.
The inteligence the clerks had was great to and you see that they're only in the crap jobs because to them it's convinience. This is a simple yet effective situation that can easily be applied to life, and when Randal comes out with the philiosophies of a ruling class e.t.c and the sheer rudenss to his customers it makes him a loveable yet hateable character.
I have Dogma, chasing Amy and Clerks scripts, all the comics, aside from clerks them all on dvd (which i aim to have soon) and dozens of posters. I LOVE Kevin Smith films.
Anyway, did anyone here see Donnie Darko last year? Brilliant.
Oh, and Dare Devil's one of the most abysmal films i've ever seen.

Thanks i'm very modest. But beleive me, you'd be surprised at the film knowlege of Scotish 16 year olds. No racism there, but i only really know scots as an example.
Ok, i thought Star wars episode 2 was ok, better than episode 1 anyday, although the special effects really took over on it, and although they were superb it really did make the film seem empty.
I know it's not a very masculine thing to say, but i loved Chicago and Rene Zewelleger totally deserved an oscar for it. The songs were great, the performances were superb and as a whole it was breathtaking.
Any abuse of my non typically masculine views there can be pm'd to me or emails sent to the usual address

Just a mention...
I love the Star Wars movies. I think they're great. Have you heard people giving their opinions on Episode 1 and 2? I've heard everything ranging from "amazing" to "they shoulda brought back Han Solo," but the most I've heard is "they're not as good as the original 3." I think those last 2 statements are totally moronic, stupid, etc.
Let me put it this way.
Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, and Return Of The Jedi are episodes 4, 5, and 6. The way stories work is the beginning of the story is okay, it gets more intense, and at the end is more battles and resolution. Star Wars is the beginning, ESB is the intense rise of action, and ROTJ is the resolution of the series. Each movie has its own rise and fall of action, but as a whole each movie has its own part. Episodes 1 through 3 aren't meant to be as amazing as the other 3 because they're still background information (for the most part). People who say they suck aren't looking at the movies in the whole picture.
I just felt like putting that in.

Re: Just a mention...
Damn, right on. I love "Star Wars". People are so quick to criticize the last 2 films, mainly the Star Wars geeks, but what they don't realize is that nearly their entire existence is based upon the imagination of George Lucas. They should just shut up and kiss the guy's feet. I did like the first 3 better myself, especially ROTJ, but moreso because I grew up watching those films...they're classics.Stiggs wrote:I love the Star Wars movies. I think they're great.
