Obviously a matter of opinion, but after pondering this very question I choose "Wish You Were Here"
To me this song exemplifies everything that they are all about:
Wonderful lyrics, beautiful music, great vocals; a true gem.
An absolute work of art on all levels.
What is the greatest Pink Floyd song of all time?

Greatest Song
Have to agree with you on this quicksilver! I think it is Dave's best vocal
performance ever! The whole album is my favourite and I've said before
that the section between Welcome to the Machine & Wish You were Here
is one of the great moments in Rock.I love the Transistor radio transition
between Have a Cigar & Wish You were Here!!!
"Welcome to the Machine" is my all time favourite song as far as music
and lyric is concerned! Have a Cigar has one of Dave's greatest guitar
solos next to "Time" and "Comfortably Numb"!

^ I completey agree!dgsyd1 wrote:I'll go with either "Echoes", or "Comfortably Numb", both songs are among the finest examples of everything that made Pink Floyd such a great band.
Also, can't forget Shine On You Crazy Diamond. It's absolutely gorgeous. I love the progressions on that song. It's so sad, whenever I hear it, it makes me miss Syd more.

Oh boy
It's impossible to say which is best really. There are so many different bests to choose, and they're all great, but for different reasons. Every album has an amazing song that sticks out, some have songS that stick out, but the best overall? Let's consider the options.
Look at all the albums. Astronomy Domine started it all off. One led to another. Without Cymbaline and Stay, I think there would be no Wish You Were Here. Without Interstellar Overdrive there would be no Atom Heart Mother Suite or Marooned. Tho really without Echoes I don't think there would have been any Dark Side Of The Moon, WYWH, Animals, or The Wall. I think once they did that song the guys were like "Yeah, I think this is what we want to do from now on." Not trippy stuff, but overall perfection. They realized what they can do and they did what they could. They made the 4 most important albums of all time following that album (minus Obscured By Clouds of course). So once again I cast my vote for Echoes.
Special Recognition for the entire Animals album.

For sure. It's been a musical evolution! I just love the homogeny in Pink Floyd music down the years.Stiggs wrote:One led to another.

I'll go with "Eclipse," and here's why...
To begin with, it's a powerful and stirring piece of music and melody.
It's (IMHYOO) the best of Roger's "lists."
The technical illusion of Roger beginning the song alone (as the moon, perhaps) and gradually being eclipsed by Rick, Dave and the backup singers (as the more massive and larger sun.)
It's the perfect finish to DSOTM.
It's just a damn good song.
I could also make strong arguments for a dozen other songs, but when it all comes down to it, next to Comfortably Numb or Have A Cigar, this is my choice.
