I was wondering, what exactly is the importance of the Floyd hammer insignia? I'm figuring they come from the Wall movie, which i've never seen. What exactly were they supposed to symbolize, if anything?

Hammers are used normally when something is being molded or shaped. For me the hammer represents a dictatorship with the hammers symbolising conformity (that a word?) An army that molds the public to being like them mentally.

I love that song. I don't care what they say!
Meeeee toooooo! It's fun!!
I'm fond of that song too. I prefer the version on Anthology 3 to the album version. It's a much nicer song with out the guitar, sound effects and that ghastly Moog synth.
The hammers? yeah, Gerald Scarfe thought them up. He described hammers as vicious (when wielded), oppressive and unrelenting.

On Abbey Road Maxwell's Silver Hammer is definitly my least favourite. It'a much in the style of Octopus' Garden and things, basically joke songs, which can be funny until it occurs to you that you spent like a tenner on the album.
