I just love Roger Waters way of writing.
Who do you think is the best metaphor Roger Waters ever written.
Here's just one of those giving me goose pimples...
And they gave him command
of a nuclear submarine
and sent him back in seach of
The Garden of Eden
Waters best metaphor?

The entire "hot stuff with a hatpin" bit in Pigs (the Maggie Thatcher verse) is just genius. Just when a very close look at the lyrics is getting very dark, you stumble across Roger Waters subtly calling her a prostitute. Genius.
"Through the fish-eyed lens of tear-stained eyes", the entire vese that ends in "I'll tell you-*gunshot*", and the like represent a lot of other great work, though; The Final Cut must be one of Waters' best-ever songs. It's a pity it'd be harder than hell to play live. Heck, Southampton Docks is grand too.

a place to stay
enough to eat
somewhere old heroes shuffle safely down the street
where you can speak out loud
about your doubts and fears
and what's more no-one ever disappears
you never hear their standard issue kicking in your door
you can relax on both sides of the tracks
and maniacs don't blow holes in bandsmen by remote control
and everyone has recourse to the law
and no-one kills the children anymore
and no-one kills the children anymore
Has there ever been a more moving description of Utopia?

some of my favorites
Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky
The child is grown, the dream is gone, I have become comfortably numb
Strangers passing in the street, by chance two separate glances meet and I am you and what I see is me
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the english way
