The kind people at Cheffins auction house just sent me a lovely high resolution photo of what is probably Roger Barrett's last known surviving piece of artwork. It is from January 2006.
Does anyone here paint? Can anyone comment on his technique? From looking at it myself as a novice, I can see he has sketched out a rough drawing first then started painting over it although not quite covering the pencil lines!. He has dropped some paint that he used for the bottles on the right. Do you you think these two observations could suggest that he was physically handicapped as well as a mentalist?
Clearly these paintings were done completely as the mind took him, probably in a short period of time. This is similar to taking a photograph, as you try and get the light as if it was fleeting. The top pic is mixed media, as it lookes like wax crayon was employed top right before paint was added over the top.
My Breakfast is correct, these were done very quickly, which is why the paint is splattered.
These would not have any value if not done by Syd. But they do give a picture of what his later life was like. I'd love to have the first one on the wall of my office.
Pics are just fine, Keith. Now, could you please turn the next page of thouse scrapbooks, thanks. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT I AM BUYING !!! who am i fooling in here
