[quote="ddebil] You have to seriously want/need to give up before you can.

I agree ... but not with the "need" part .... that would still suggest a sacrifice having to be made (for health reasons I presume) , which is the wrong frame of mind with which to view smokes ... you may end up giving them up (for a while) - but you'll always miss them and want one.
smoking,,....anybody tried to give up?

Now't wrong with a sacrifice in my book!
Seriously, I gave up all forms of 'substances' (boo hoo!! ), because my other half doesn't approve.
I haven't slipped in 7 years, nor do I intend to...doesn't mean I still don't want to - but I won't.
I suppose it all depends on the importance you put on something.

Ah, so it's the inhaling that bothers you? Funnily enough, that's not the same for me. Why did you stop the othe stuff?
Feel free to continue this via pm. I'm sure nobody else is interested...

Read it and you knowKeith Jordan wrote:That funny little gay man? What has he got to say about it?wiped wrote: Read Allen Carrs book ...
Actually all he really says is: when you quit smoking you aren't going to miss/lose a thing. You are gaining. Gaining breath, gaining freedom and more. Don't try to outsmart Allen, you probably can find faults in his book, but what's the use when you want to quit. It's Neuro Linguistic Programming anyway. But his book worked for me.

Neuro Linguistic Programming is a bit strange.

Nothing's important enough for me to surrender making my own decisions about which substances I do or do not engage in. If they truly love you for yourself, then they'll accept your habits.ddebil wrote:I suppose it all depends on the importance you put on something.
It's one thing to try to help someone quit an addiction because it would improve the quality of their lives together...but quite another to insist upon it as one of the terms of the relationship.
It's a demand to change, the way I see it.
Back on topic...still using the Smoke Stik. Probably smoked a grand total of six cigarettes yesterday (and I'm a pack-a-day minimum smoker.) Haven't smoked a real cigarette today...and have just a couple of hours ago switched over to the nicotine-free cartridges.
So far, so good.

I received more pleasure by stopping than had I continued. Seems fair enough to me..
Well done for cutting down, Sean. Keep up the good work.

Thank you both.
I met and got to hang for several hours with a woman that I think I could give up smoking for, were it to become a requirement.
Fortunately, though; she's a smoker, herself...so I won't have to quit.

1. Sad, but true. Because other countries are waiting for those problems to come. That's human nature - some people don't move their asses before they're forced to.PublicImage wrote: 1. Clean air is an illusion in the 21st century. Regardless of whether or not smoking bans are enforced, your lungs will be damaged if you go outside for more than a few hours every day. Switzerland aside, there don't seem to be any countries with a serious environmental agenda that is being enforced rather than just talked about, and the air won't improve until more people start to do things.
2. You're complaining about the tiny amount of residue from a cigarette that was smoked before you even entered a building. That's ridiculous. Why don't you just ask your smoker friends not to do it around you if it bothers you so much? If they are actually your friends rather than a group of people you follow around to look popular, they will pay attention.
No, I don't smoke. I just care about liberty.
2. You're right, I guess. Oh, and yes, they are my friends, they knew me before I was popular and are not very bothered bu it.
3. What do you mean you care about liberty?

He means that if you impinge upon the rights of smokers, you're just opening to door to impinge in the rights of everyone, eventually.moom wrote:3. What do you mean you care about liberty?
