Dear Rick has now been gone three and a half years. Time seems to pass ever more quickly nowadays but I am still very sad at his passing and still find it hard to believe. I can remember the day Marc Bolan died, John Lennon's shooting, Freddie Mercury etc but Rick is the one I feel most sad at.
I can remember standing outside of the Dockland's gigs back on the late 80's hoping to get a glympse of Rick but sadly it was not to be.
The guy always came across as a gentle soul, almost unconfident in his abilities in a way which sounds crazy but from all the press I have read over the years, there is a degree of truth in that statement.

Still sad at Rick Wright's passing.

Re: Still sad at Rick Wright's passing.
It's not something I think of on a daily basis. But when I do... there's a weird feeling of something missing from this world, or me, or both... I sometimes look into the faraway skies searching for that something, hoping that by some miracle it comes back - of course it never does; but I keep on doing that - because hope is comfortable.
Though I am taking a break from the forum, not planning to post much, I felt like sitting down by your side, moody.

Re: Still sad at Rick Wright's passing.
I know what you mean.
Because the Floyd guys are very private you didnt hear much about his passing, his funeral etc. I think that makes it more awkward too, like it wasnt even acknowledged.
Watching Gilmours speech at that award ceremony shortly after Wrights death was heartbreaking.
I always say to my mates, I feel fucking privileged to have seen Rick and Dave perform live, especially 'Echoes' which is the highlight of my gigging life thus far, probably never be topped.

I can understand moodyblue's feeling. I have been a Floyd and Syd fan for only about a seven months, but I still am so sad about Syd, even though I learnt about him five years after his death. Sometimes its amazing how art and music can deeply connect a listener with his idol despite the two not being acquaintances. I liked Rick the best after Syd, so I'm also filled with an empty feeling. It's odd how both of my favourite Floyd members died of cancer (I think Syd died of pancreatic cancer).

He had a good life and actually was quite imoral if he was into cocaine as I belive he was. If people didn't buy cocaine it wouldn't be grown and the areas of the world where it is grown wouldn't be turned into wars zones ruining kids lives who are born there all so rich people like Rick can get off it on coke. That logic should imo be more prevalent and make cocaine use as disgusting as child porn. Obviously I love Pink Floyd and like Rick for his contributions but getting high-mindedly sympathetic towards his relatively early demise isn't something I'm going to do.moodyblue wrote:Dear Rick has now been gone three and a half years. Re: Still sad at Rick Wright's passing.
Why not pity a drug user? Does it mean that just because someone uses drugs, he has no value for life? Society is quick to label someone as a "junkie", but many times drug addicts have often been uncared or unloved and have gone through hard times, and their resulting drug use is a plea for help. Their close ones simply desert them cause they think that associating with such people is a stain on them, when actually their (true) love and care can fill that empty void in their lives.
(Make it known that I'm an advocate of psychedelics, but am against coke or heroin or meth).
I do understand that Rick deteriorated due to his cocaine use, but not having pity for the unloved is as big a crime.
Also, the real criminals aren't drug addicts themselves, but the drug dealers who are thigs and lace them without any mercy, if cocaine and heroin are given in their purest form, they won't be harmful except for being addictive.

Whoever the 'real criminals' are the fact is if people didn't do smack and coke then it wouldn't be profitable to grow it and the kids born in those areas of the world wouldn't be living in war zones. Who do you have more sympathy for? Rich guys like Rick and Stephen Fry who spend money on cocaine or the kids who have to live in war zones that are created by people fighting to make money out of cocaine? YOu can't put your own pleasure before the welfare of kids and that's effectively what coke heads and smack heads do. They only decent option they've got is to try and get off it, no pun intended, if they don't then they can't expect any sympathy. They won't get any from me a/w.rememberaday wrote:Why not pity a drug user? Does it mean that just because someone uses drugs, he has no value for life? Why do people have to start 'moralising'?Flying pig437 wrote:He had a good life and actually was quite imoral if he was into cocaine as I belive he was. Unless you know for sure the guy was into cocaine and so what anyway as far as I am concerned, why make an issue out of it? You DON'T KNOW and you are just guessing by the sounds of it and reading bdetween the lines, may even have some personal story related to drugs who knows. I have too but it doesn't cloud my judgement of someone who clearly had personal issues with himself and his confidence.
Why is it judged 'immoral' if you like cocaine by the way? I like looking at porn or did years ago, was that immoral too?
And by the same token, if people didn't buy their meat from Tesco's, Asda's, Sainsbury's etc then poor animals wouldn't have to suffer having their throats cut and the Halal meat trade would not prevail. We can all moralise at the end of the day but my initial post was all about a musician that I admired who had by my calculations, personal issues with himself over the years and no amount of money can ever replace how you feel about yourself on the inside.

It wouldn't surprise me if they cremated. His demise and funeral were kept very private. I'm sure that is what he and his family would have wanted

There is an interesting website called 'find a grave.com' that shows you where some very interesting people are buried. I found Jon Bonham's resting place through this along with Brian Jones from the Stones but sadly, I wonder if we'll ever hear what became of Rick's remains and where they might be.bmet wrote:There has been a great mystery as to whether Rick has a final resting place!? I used to regularly go that site before I joined NPF. Yes, it has stuff on deceased celebrities like Dennis Wilson, Brian Jones, etc. However, I couldn't find anything much about Rick.moodyblue wrote:There is an interesting website called 'find a grave.com' that shows you where some very interesting people are buried.
