Re: Mac or PC?
I've just realised what the key difference is between a Mac & a PC...A Mac looks like it's made for you to enjoy yourself on...

Re: Mac or PC?
The thing about mac's is that a lot of people who use them are up their own asses with the belief they are better than everyone. The other day I saw some old crustie sat on his canal boat with his purple dreds and his macbook - fucking twat.

Re: Mac or PC?
I can proundly say that I'm a PC. We recently upgraded our PC to the most current processor, ram, hard drive, for about $500. I'd like to see you do that with a Mac.

Does anyone actually 'love' their PC or is it just like another useful technological invention...like the toilet or something!

Re: Mac or PC?
After re reading this thread it's obvious the people either like/hate PC and some either like/hate Mac - without sounding too sexist its like asking someone if they are an Ass man or a tits man and I don't think there is any way of converting each other.Flying pig437 wrote:Does anyone actually 'love' their PC or is it just like another useful technological invention...like the toilet or something!
So with that in mind I will keep an eye on this thread and if it carries on as a slanging match (and I have to confess I've done a bit of that) I will lock it. If it can carry on with people being able to express in a polite way why they prefer one instead of the other it will stay open.
so play nice (and that includes me!!)
So FP437 why are mac so cool and not pc's?? - saying cause it is won't rub either. Also my experience of macs is people who own them downloading software to make them run loike pc's

Re: Mac or PC?
Mac's look better...like a toy for grown ups! That's pretty much all there is to it for me. I pretty much live on my computer and until my heath problems get resolved anticipate continuing to do so so it recently occured to me after/while reading a boook about Steve Jobs to rethink just exactly what my relationship was with my laptop. One conclusion I came to pretty much straight away was I didn't love it. I always wanted to but I just didn't. Then it dawned on me that people don't/can't buy p.c's like they buy cars, in that they look around and look for one they like or love or they do but the range and variety and quality of the p.c's out there is pretty, to use a Jobsian phrase, utterly shit. I've sorta known that for a while and have been blaming microsoft but I love Windows so it's not the software that's shit in the home computer industry it's the hardware.I didn't buy it by looking around and choosing it in the way I would a car. I've never owned a car and have zilch intrest in owning one, even if I had money, but I often see a make/model and love the look of it and I think that fairly often but if I go, as i do every now and again, and have a look around Curry's I never think the same way about any, even the ones I think about buying, of the laptops. So I actually admire cars that I have zilch intrest in more than laptops which I'm profoundly interested in and that says a heck of a lot about the abysmal design asthetics of Windows laptops.drafsack wrote:After re reading this thread it's obvious the people either like/hate PC and some either like/hate Mac - without sounding too sexist its like asking someone if they are an Ass man or a tits man and I don't think there is any way of converting each other.Flying pig437 wrote:Does anyone actually 'love' their PC or is it just like another useful technological invention...like the toilet or something!

Ok some good points but why are they so expensive?? An example is this - i went onto Amazon and looked at a typical macbook spec:Flying pig437 wrote: Mac's look better...like a toy for grown ups! Hard Drive Size: 500 GB
Graphics Card Description: Intel HD Graphics 4000

My Toshiba Satellite

Processor Speed: 2.5 GHz
Memory: 6 GB
Computer Memory Type: DDR3 SDRAM
Hard Drive Size: 600 GB
Graphics Card Description: Intel® HD Graphics 3000

So is it the software that bumps up the price?? I know in the College where I teach they use Mac stuff in the music software so apart from that and the graphics card everything is the same. So its like buying a Lexus instead of a Toyota - its the same bits inside just a different badge, posher trim and price

Re: Mac or PC?
Apple products are over-priced and over-hyped. They truly do disgust me how they get away with it and brainwash idiots into parting with extortionate amounts of money for their wares. Have Apple ever actually invented something? They just steal other people's ideas and mash them up, stick their Apple badge on it and call it cool. Genius from a marketing point of view and I feel sorry for the people buying their filth, shelling out unnecessary amounts of money for mediocre products.
I hate that Apple limit what you can do with their hardware and how they differentiate the market by offering the same base product but with different amounts of storage capacity but changing the little flash card in the hardware and charging fucking astronomically more for the product. Disgusting business practice.
I think Apple are shameful and the people who buy them are probably lacking in areas such as intelligence and common sense.
I have a nice Android Tablet (Archos Arnova 10b G3 for £150) and a nice Packard Bell PC (£600). If there were Apple, they would probably be twice that price with no noticeable benefit other than... "ERMERGHERD its an APPLE!".
Keep you Apples, I will stick with me pears!

Re: Mac or PC?
Apple have higher overheads than PC manufactures because obviously MS provide PC hardware manufactures cheap software not to mention the fact they don't spend anywhere near as much time on the design and engineering of their hardware. Steve Jobs even used to insist that the inside of Macs look good and then had special fittings made so no one without specialist tools could open them!!drafsack wrote: Ok some good points but why are they so expensive?? I don't understand your car metaphor though because I wouldn't know a Lexus from a Toyota.

Lexus are made by Toyota and they use the same bits they make Toyota's with to make Lexus. The only real difference between a Toyota and a Lexus is deeper carpet, posher looking switches, a few more LED's on the dash, a different badge and the cost

Re: Mac or PC?
Well that's true of all the big tech co.'s. They've all done a lot of that. Obvioulsy they've all had their original ideas too. It was actually Steve Jobs himself who came up with the idea of having selectable fonts. We just don't really know who comes up with most of the ideas. We know Xerox came up with GUI and Jobs recognized it as the future and 'stole' it although Apple did actually license it properly from Xerox for Apple shares. Things would have been very differnt if they...meaning either Apple or Xerox had prevented MS adopting a GUI O/S then again things would have been very differnt if John Scully had taken Bill Gates advice and licensed the Mac O/S to other hardware manufactures!Keith Jordan wrote:They just steal other people's ideas!
