These are two playlists that I made for myself regarding the 1967-1968 period, encompassing first two albums and related singles (I called them "Random Precision 1" and "Random Precision 2"), all released at the time. I posted this somewhere on the forum before as a possible alternative version of A Nice Pair, but it would be great to hear these live in 2018. I don't care about cacophonous instrumentals at this point, so only songs are included. The encore could be more songs by Syd that came out on The Early Years 1965–1972 - "Vegetable Man", "Scream Thy Last Scream" and "Butterfly". We'll see what they actually do. I was hoping in vain back in 2007 that Pink Floyd featuring Roger Waters would perform a full concert like this at The Barbican, when the event was initially announced (but, alas).
Set 1 (Syd's songs):
01. Astronomy Domine
02. Arnold Layne
03. See Emily Play
04. Flaming
05. Apples and Oranges
06. Bike
07. Candy and a Currant Bun
08. Lucifer Sam
09. Matilda Mother
10. The Gnome
11. Chapter 24
12. Scarecrow
13. Jugband Blues
Set 2 (non-Syd's songs):
01. Let There Be More Light
02. Remember a Day
03. Take up Thy Stethoscope and Walk
04. Paint Box
05. It Would Be So Nice
06. Julia Dream
07. Corporal Clegg
08. See-Saw
09. Point Me at the Sky
10. Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun

He might be tempted to slip in some of his solo stuff

A video clip of live you can watch it if you like they use a Rickenbacker Bass but don't follow Syd's diction with precision.
I'd see them for myself but is that the time?

Nice to hear this from him and the musicians he assembled. They make the performance fun without the theatrics that is associated with Floyd and the solo concerts that followed thereafter.....regardless of which-ever incarnation preferred.

Nick introduces the band before a run through of Obscured By Clouds!

If they tour again this year, as long as the tickets aren't stupidly expensive, I'm there!

Re: Nick Mason to perform early Pink Floyd with new band
I like this. And I don’t like it. Pros and cons kind of thing. I like an active Mason, but early Floyd is not my thing. I like that he’s touring but there’s no chance I’ll make any show. Lots of comments and maybe a full review later (from the bootleg, though). My biggest gripe is the singing. Yikes. I think they should get a professional vocalist. It’s just... it sounds like a cover band at a pub. Honestly. I have nothing against the people involved but it is quite, quite lacking and it doesn’t seem to get better at any point during the night. It just ruins it for me and I am not a perfect pitch or vocalist snob at all. The bar was always so high with Pink Floyd and it’s tough to see Mason letting this go like this. Even the lack of snare shielding is kind of a really? moment. Anyhow. Not all my thoughts, just the main point. Nothing anyone can do about it but that’s my 2 cents.

Re: Nick Mason to perform early Pink Floyd with new band
I don't mind the performance at all. Not too many drummers have put together their "All Star" band. Furthermore, even less sang anything in their founding group. I would think he'd growl his vocal line in One Of These Days. And a cover of Scream Thy Last Scream would be warranted. So it's not perfect, but if anyone wants a close facsimile of PF in all forms, Brit Floyd is closer than even PF. They have to be. Any others by PF themselves have the latitude of artistic expression, so they can go as off as they want to be. Gilmour says this in his doc feature that the players he picks bring their own thing to the table, whereas Roger demands note-by-note perfection backed by dozens of decks of rolling tapes run in-synch.
I listen for what they contributed to for certain songs. Such as Set The Controls has some awesome drumming. Ditto with Saucerful Of Secrets. All else carries these moments and I like hearing live their performance so similar to the records even if the singer or instruments cant be duplicated.
Tonight, I am listening to a CD produced by a drummer of a former famous band. He plays drums and other percussion for an Iranian artist on this disc. Hearing how he divides the space between the vocals is pretty cool. It is his signature sound, much as Nick, so late, has finally put together some musicians so he can showcase what we came to expect of him. He delivers. Hope he releases this in some legal media format. Do it Nick...Do It!!!!!!!

Re: Nick Mason to perform early Pink Floyd with new band
Thanks for the reply. I don’t mind the music being reinterpreted and living on through different people. And I’m certainly not being a purist in that only Gilmour should sing floyd. I’m specifically referring to the out of tune singing which is pretty constant and dare I say unprofessional. Sometimes you need a professional vocalist.
