If you're into that, you're into that sort of thing. But I think the Industry can be seen as taking the piss.
Although I must congratulate them for coming up with a more bafflingly unnecessary product than Funkos!

Re: Pink Floyd The Dark Side of the Moon EMI Tape Box Folio - Side One
A few years ago Kevin Howlett wrote a book called 'The Beatles: The BBC Archives' and that product (certainly my first edition) came in a reproduction archive box 11-inch x 11-inch x 1.5-inch and it looks the business. On opening the box the book inside has a simple design suggesting a spool of tape is contained within. Also supplied were a few loose archive documents. The total price was 15% of the DSOTM product and I feel you get more for your money from Kevin Howlett.
The DSOTM folio looks a little like the black folio with photographs sent out to purchasers of The Wall SDE ... I recall the gift 'folio' was sent out to make up for the shipping delay.

And let's not forget delivery condition! At least if you had to fold the box itself you'd get something more out of it.

“So what have you got?”
“Well, we’ve got a photocopy of the box they stored the dark side master in”
“Oh that’s cool, like a copy of the album in a unique box”
“No no, just the box, no album”
“The box?”
“Yeah”
“We’re selling a basically empty box?”
“Yeah”
“Ok, how much are we gonna charge? £20? Might be a bit steep”
“No no. We’re gonna charge £200”
“For a box?”
“Yes, a limited edition box though”
“How limited?”
“500 copies”
“Is that because that’s all the toner left in the photocopier or because that’s the number of people who will pay that much for a box?”
“Yes”
