It would be hysterical if Gilmour let them use one of the latter-day live versions.

Re: Roger rejects a request from Facebook
well if I'm correct, Roger's never agreed to a song of his being used in an ad, has he ? So, nothing unusual there. He probably gets loads of requests that he doesn't talk about, but this time he had an opportunity to call out the Zuck, so he did.twcc wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 8:13 pm ABITW Pt2 will not feature in an ad -

First off, not sure if David Gilmour has recorded ABITW and secondly as part of the agreement that 'The Wall' belongs to Roger, David would probably need the OK from RogerZiggyZipgun wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 8:41 pm It would be hysterical if Gilmour let them use one of the latter-day live versions.

If Roger couldn't prevent them from performing it on either of those tours - and he publicly criticized them for doing so - then he can't prevent anyone from using those versions.

I intended to say David 'solo' ... I very much doubt a David led Pink Floyd could be used as part of an ad campaign as that would certainly require permission from Roger as the agreement, as I understand, is Roger owns the rights to 'The Wall'.

He owns the rights to the original recordings. There are ways of getting around those, like when they re-recorded "Money" in 1981, or when Rick re-recorded "The Great Gig in the Sky" in 1990.

And this is why Waters is such a frustrating figure for me. One minute he's making a total git of himself with the Animals liner notes nonsense, the next he's telling Mark Zuckerburg to stick Facebook up his own arse, which is a mode of speech I will always endorse because I couldn't trust Zuckerburg further than I could throw him. I agree with Waters on a lot of his politics, but he's such an insufferable prick the rest of the time it's really hard for me to like him.

I wonder how many hundreds (or thousands) of times in how many years has Roger privately and quietly rejected the use of his songs for any commercial purpose.
And now he has to make a great show of it, just because it was the owner of Facebook/instagram.

...while Roger himself continues to use Facebook, and even complain that Dave won't let him use Facebook even more.

If you haven’t noticed Roger is a bit of a hypocriteZiggyZipgun wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 2:33 pm ...while Roger himself continues to use Facebook, and even complain that Dave won't let him use Facebook even more.

Particularly amusing given that Facebook probably isn't even the biggest place to reach an audience anymore. He'd be better off releasing his press statements primarily through Twitter, hellscape that it is as an app.ZiggyZipgun wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 2:33 pm ...while Roger himself continues to use Facebook, and even complain that Dave won't let him use Facebook even more.

I wonder which PF songs could be used in advertisements.
A Brick in the Wall Pt. 2. could be used to advertise builders.
Shine On You Crazy Diamond could be used to advertise car polish.
Fat Old Sun could be used to advertise suncream.
Goodbye Blue Sky could be used to advertise blackout curtains.
And so on...
