I'm a complete Days of the New fanboy, and I know I've rambled on about their greatness before, so I'll just leave it at that. I love 'em.
I've been a big Jewel fan since her debut album - but she sells out a little more with each release, and with the latest album, which came out yesterday, she's gone the way of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. It's quite sad, really. She had a lot of potential.
I'm getting into Radiohead more and more every day, too.

These days..I've been getting into a lot of current psychedelia. Some really cool stuff.
Some of which are:
Acid Mothers Temple...you gotta love a band with tribute tracks like ACID HEART MOTHER
SubArchnoid Space.....Improv Psychedelia at some of its finest From SF.
Dunlavy.....DIY psych from Texas
Bardo Pond.....Dirge psych out of Philly
Cul De Sac..... 10 yrs and still going strong. Saw them a few months ago in NYC with Damo Suzuki from CAN sitting in with them.
Porupine Tree....need I say more
Tortoise....These guys from chicago really blow me away live.
Flaming Lips.....Goes without saying.
Mogwai.....Scotlands own little darlings of noise
Green Pajama's.....another fine English psych outfit
Oh and there's probably a ton more...These just came off the top of my head.

Cul de Sac are brilliant! Too bad you can't find their albums here(Finland), so I had to resort to mp3's. Ecim is one of the best debut albums ever, not so sure about their new album (Death of The Sun) though....TheVegetableMan wrote:

The new album is pretty cool. A lot different than anything else they've done. They did a lot of experimenting with samples, trying to incorporate the samples as if it were an actual instrument than as a looped track to play over. I was talking with Glenn Jones at the show with Damo and he was saying that they were trying to implement a tour for this album, but they wanted to see how well it all worked first.
My favorite by them is China Gate and Immortality Lesson

I agree, today's music isn't much compared to the music of the 60 70 and 80, though?SaintCrest wrote: but im a huge fan of classic rock and 80s: the fixx, journey, styx, rolling stones, simon and garfunkel, david bowie, led zep, fleetwood mac, kansas, chicago, boston...

I like what I'm hearing from Coldplay...especially Yellow and Daylight...ESPECIALLY DAYLIGHT.
I disagree with those who think today's music isn't up to much...but I also have to admit that there aren't very many new bands who are living up to the "new" rock bands who came out during the heyday of alternamania.
What I mean is, when Seattle hit, there were like ten or twenty bands all of a sudden who were kicking huge amounts of butt.
Chevelle...I like what I've heard so far.
Shinedown has one really good song so far that's a bit on the pop side of the metal spectrum...but it's not like that's as bad a thing as it used to be...yet. A really catchy hook in this song...it's called Fly From The Inside.
Disturbed is pretty cool...I think, anyway.
Foo Fighters are some brilliant power pop, IMHYOO.

Music today's by and large unoriginal now, why create if you can't progress? To many bands want to return to music's routes like The Strokes e.t.c and don't try to alter them. Either that or they can't write a good lyric and just play badly and shout a lot, The Hives being by far the worst offenders here.
We need a musical revolution and we need it soon.

I thought I'd give this thread a bump as its almost a year on so lets see what weve discovered and if anythings changed over that time. To be honest very little has changed for me in terms of bands that have really gripped me. I've grown quite partial to The Killers and their single Somebody Told Me is my fave of this year and I have jumped on the Franz Ferdinand bandwagon who, in spite of all the hype, have made a great album. But the one that gets me over all is Piney Gir, she was the best part of Vic 20 and her solo work seems to be even better, so whats happened for you in these past 12 months?
