im sure the useful idiot doesnt mean that you cant like them but I wouldnt actually put those bands in metal&goth rock genre more like the public image pop genre.
This was what I was saying as well. You're allowed to listen to whatever you want, it just irks me hearing Evanescence called goth-rock. I mean lumping evanescence in with bands like Joy Division and The Cure just doesn't work for me.

Evanescence is a tough call ... they have many types of songs. Like some of them, like the ones played on the radio, are poprock, but others on the cd are more rock. It all depends on the song really. :)

I find too many 'modern' bands remind me of something old. But if i had to choose 1 i would say Damien rice. that album O is breath-taking.
by the way why do you all consider The Flaming Lips to be modern. do you not know they're out since the mid eighties.

Muse has been playing some serious tricks on me lately. Well, since I discovered them...yes, yes. I can't believe I feel as passionately about a band as I do about Muse. Not since Pink Floyd has a band made me feel the way they make me feel. Well, almost as much as the Floyd, anyway.

My other modern favorites are Modest Mouse, Flaming Lips, Paper Chase, Radiohead, Black Crowes, Wilco, Smashing Pumpkins, Steve Burns.
