I heartily accept the motto, - "That government is best which governs least;" and I should like to see it acted up to more rapidly and systematically. Carried out, it finally amounts to this, which I also believe, - "That government is best which governs not at all;" and when men are prepared for it, that will be the kind of government which they will have.

I'm a shade left of middle, although I do think I'm getting more conservative as I get older. :? It depends on the situation though, I am quite liberal on some issues and conservative on others.

A bit of a generalization, no? (and none of it is at all accurate as far as what *this* liberal believes)

Tell you what its the local elections here today and its always my policy to vote for the person who lives nearest to me on account that if its going to affect me its going to affect them. Guess what the person who lives closest to me is a bl***y libral and they live in the next road to me. So what am I to do, go against all I said in the previous post or vote for someone that lives nowhere near me?

You have untill 9.00 tonight to decide.

I voted right, since that's what my family is. I myself however, do not care in the slightest bit.

So the local elections are now over and there was on average a 25% turnout. 25% - don't people care about whats happening around them don't people care that these people make decisions that affect their lives. Low turn outs like this lets the radicals in. The BNP (a far right party) have made gains in some areas. These are fascists that would round up all undesirable and deport them. So why dont people care enough to vote, is it because Blair has mirrored Clintons model of politics, taken the middle ground and effectivly distroyed the oppisition as he has incorperated their policies into his own. After all their were as many if not more conservitives backing Blair over the Iraq war than there were in this own party. Or is it that there is so much apathy about Governments as they do what they want regardless of what the people want. At the end of the day can you trust someone who wants to be a politician. Are they doing it for you or for them selves. I favour the latter.

Oh by the way I voted labour because even though he didn't live as close to me as the liberal candidate he still lived close enough to be affected by what affects me. The other two who stood didn't even live in the same town!!

I want to but i can't.

They didn't do as well as they thought though. Man, that Tommy Sheridin, i advise everyone to go to an SSP site and read their promises. They have a problem with everything and think it's a good idea to give away free heroin. Man, if it was up to Tommy the only people that would benefit are the unemployed.

What Scotland needs is a bit if individualism.

I don't vote.

And for the people who will say "well, then, you have no right to complain" I say this..."bug off."

The people who vote are the ones who have no right to complain...they got what they wanted. I wanted no part of the system so I did not take part in the system, thus I have the right to say whatever I wish about the system...at least I'm not being a hypocrite about it.

Although, from time to time I DO think about writing in George Carlin for Prez and Dennis Miller for Veep.

Even if their candidate didn't win, they still got what they wanted:

The continuing of a system which proclaims to offer choices, but actually only offers you a choice between undesirables.

The only difference between the democrats and the republicans is one pretends to be concerned about the things the other doesn't pretend to be interested in.

Any Colour You Like...as long as it's blue.

The illusion of choice where there actually is none.

Whenever you vote, even if your candidate doesn't win, that illusion is perpetuated...that's really what people who vote are after...the perpetuation of the illusion...that way, they don't have to open their eyes and see how messed up things really are.

They might have to start thinking for themselves if that happened.

God forbid.

Yeah, you never know, they might think it's a good thing to loot a natural history museum or something.

Mosespa,if you don't like the system here get the hell out.Last time I looked it still is the best system out there. If you don't like the guys running put yourself or talk somebody you like in to running.Personally I think your vote is the most important thing you got.It ought to be a law you have to vote but that will never be because it is not in the guys running benifit,if everybody had to vote you would see a lot more people running.
