That was a bit rude. That was just his opinion. Why did you have to tell him to get the hell out?

It's funny how one tends to move further to the right with age!

I voted left, but I can feel the pull!

That's usually how it happens, but not always. In my case, I felt a slight shift to the right in my late 20s/early 30s, but then rethought a lot of things and right now I'm probably as much to the left as I've ever been (although I do take everything issue by issue). My mom also seems to be getting further left, or shall I say further centrist in her case, as she gets older too. I'm proud of her for not letting my extremely old fashioned rightwing reactionary dad influence her, although I have to admit I'm proud of him on his stance on a few things too (but only a few).

My father remains staunchly (and moralistically) socialist, of which I am strangely proud. My mother, however, could teach Hitler a thing or two about National Socialism! In my early thirties, I was probably at my most left wing. The advancing years are pulling me towards the centre!

Id be on the left on a lot of issues, not all but a lot. Im all for individualisism and people being able to do what they want but i believe there are a lot of people who are less fortunate and need some sort of organisation to help them out and help them up (not give them hand outs for sitting on their arse!) There is a balance that needs to be struck and that balance requires a lot of understanding of human society and human
behaviour, i dont understand the negative attitude towards socialists because there is a big difference between socialism and communism and sometimes i feel people cant or dont bother to differentiate.
theres nothing wrong with wanting a fairer and more equal society as long as it does not come at the price of personal freedom :D
Ps. i also believe people think of themselves and their own lives first(im not storming the high moral ground here) and that the lives of the rest of society always play second fiddle to the immediate concerns of their own.

a wise man once told me:
if you were not a socialist before 20, you have no heart, if you are still a socialist after 30, you have no brain....i'm approaching 40 and i voted left, that made me real worried about my mental state.
i'm more of a libral than a socialist but i think in view of the current situation in the world maybe i should join the facists soon before i lose the rest of my mind fighting for a free world with a free will to decide for its own.

That's blatant racial discrimination that i should not have to tolerate

Yeah there's Hadrians wall between Scotland and England, however, like 4 bricks stand of it. The way i see it is the Romans didn't use it to prevent the Sctoish from leaving, no, they did it as a favour to us to keep out the english and welsh. To keep safe the only good part of Britain.

I've heard this saying too:
moreblues wrote:a wise man once told me:

except the US version is more like:

If you are not a liberal before 20, you have no heart
If you are not a conservative by 30, you have no brain

and may I add:

And if you don't change your mind at least a couple more times by 40, you have no soul.

One of these days another scot is going to join and with me they shall deny all these steryotypes, but unlike me they certainly won't be kind about it.

Anyone here like haggis? I think it's actually ok, having only had it like 6 times in my life though i can't claim to be a veterin.

Anyway, back on topic, i said slightly more to the right, probably because my twin brother is a socialist and i have to live with his preachings :(

So what is haggis then? Is it pigs bladder, or sheeps stomach or something like that?
