SPOILER - Bit of news incase you don't know...

Post by David Smith »

Gilmour's official site says there will be no support band, and that the show will come in two parts

Anyone else reckon this means the first half will probably be the new album in it's entirety, and the second more familiar classics?

Either way, less support and longer with Dave. Sounds good to me :D

Did you see this in the gilmour blog?

We will soon be revealing those musicians who will form David?s band, so stay tuned for news on whether or not Richard will also be going on tour.
Sounds like they are dropping a hint?

A show in two parts... sounds good to me :D

That makes enough room to play the new album and afterwards to delve into some older material. I'm still hoping he will revive some of the earlier stuff. Cymbaline for instance, or Fat Old Sun... that would be great. Better than a gazillionth rendition of wywh... imo.

And if Rick comes along I hope they will also play some of his solo stuff. I still think Dave's take on Rick's Breakthrough from 2002 is amazing.

Lets hope it is because he is playing lots of material and not that he needs a rest in the middle of a small set because he is getting old!! :o :D

"David Gilmour has assembled a brilliant band of world renowned musicians, who will join him to play the sell-out 25 date ?On An Island? tour. The tour, David?s first since the record-breaking 1994 Pink Floyd Division Bell tour, starts in Europe in March, goes to North America in April and returns to the UK at the end of May. ?On An Island?, the wonderful new album, is released on 6 March 2006.

The musicians in David Gilmour?s band are:

Phil Manzanera - Roxy Music guitarist and co-producer of ?On An Island?
Richard Wright - Pink Floyd?s keyboard player
Guy Pratt - bass player with Pink Floyd and Roxy Music
Jon Carin - keyboards and longtime player with Pink Floyd
Steve DiStanislao - drums, recently played with Crosby & Nash

The concert set-list is still to be decided but is likely to combine David?s favourite Pink Floyd tracks with tracks from ?On An Island?."

A 14 min Fat Old Sun with long jam would be really great... :D

:D Rick will be there! That's great news.

Or is this just the band for the opening evening in which he is a guest? I Hope not.

He should let Rick play one or two of his songs.

Yeah, i loved the stuff they did together on the meltdown gig... that was beautiful material. Let's hope they will do things like that again.

Anyone got any idea of expected running times of the shows? I'm trying to organise transport for 30th May (RAH) and need to know if a return bus journey at 23:00 will be pushing it too much (which it probably will!). I'm thinking 20:00-22:30 might be a reasonable guess, seeing as there's no support act...?

Well according to setlists handed out at the Mermaind gig it could well be

First half

1 Castellorizon
2 On An Island
3 The Blue
4 Take A Breath
5 Red Sky At Night
6 This Heaven
7 Then I Close My Eyes
8 Smile
9 A Pocketful Of Stones
10 Where We Start

Second half

11 Shine on you crazy diamond
12 Wots... uh the deal
13 wearing the inside out
14 Breathe
15 Time
16 Breathe reprise
17 Dominoes
18 High Hopes
19 Echoes

20 Wish you were here
21 Comfortably numb

Now that would be an excellent show :D

Wots... Uh The Deal, Wearing The Inside Out... and ECHOES?

Wow. Well, consider me the first person to jump on the first RoIO of this to come out. I wish he'd leave the Rog-based songs alone (Breathe, Time, Shine On); they're Roger's for his tour. You could easily replace them with Fat Old Sun, Summer '68, and On The Turning Away.

Nice to see Dominoes, though. I wonder how he'll tackle Syd's backwards solo. It's no Birdie Hop, but it'll do.

Who's to say On The Turning Away, Fat Old Sun etc aren't going to be played. The set list sheets only give away one nights load of songs :)
