the general mentality here stinks, as I've said in the past.

Let me tell you about Paducah, Kentucky.

Every year in April the numerous elderly, blue-haired members of The American Quilters Society converge upon the town and block traffic while trying to figure out where the heck they're going (at four and a half miles per hour) which is usually to the AQS museum/headquarters. For about a week, old women who quilt and their husbands (who don't even seem to know what PLANET they're on anymore) infest the town and make things miserable for all of us.

The idiots around Paducah drive around still flying the confederate flag...which really goes to show their utter ignorance since Kentucky wasn't a Confederate state...tawlking lahk thayis...and generally trying to stomp the living crap out of anyone who isn't like them.

Meanwhile...just across the Ohio River in Metropolis, Illinois, there is a huge statue of SUPERMAN outside the courthouse, a large green-painted rock with a large sign behind it saying that it's the largest specimen of Kryptonite ever found (the sign ends with the signature of one Clark Kent) sits about two or three block from the casino boat and for a week in June or July, the citizens of Metropolis crowd Ferry Street to take part in that wild and crazy act of debauchery and hedonism known as the SUPERMAN CELEBRATION!!!!

I swear to God that I am not making any of this up...you think your town sucks...come visit me sometime.

keith, i find war interesting because i like history alot, and yes, i have seen what it does to people. my dad is a vietnam veteran and he doesnt mind talking about it, because he finds it all interesting. i just figured that this would be an ok topic because some people like to discuss history

besides, dont rag on texas too much people, or we might have to get out our horses, snuff, shotguns, whiskey, and every other stereotypical object

What will happen when Amarica alienates it self from the rest of the world because of its gun ho attitude to every thing and every one. Will it invade mexico and the rest of south america to ensure it has enough resources to keep going. The only advantage of invading mexico would be it would make it legal to employ mexicans as slave labour on half the minimum wage.

I think the so-called " War On Drugs " is very intresting. They
have spent more $$ money $$ on it than what was spent on the
vietnam war. And did not win it. Does anyone think there is a
way to win the war against drugs??

Ya Legalize most of them, have them under goverment rules and tax the piss out of them, plus make it illegal to drive under there influence and have high fines on it. More jobs for making them, selling them, inspecting them Etc.

The war against drugs eh? I find that incerdible funny the thought that the biggest country in the whole world is having a war and losing it to people on drugs

Seriously though, it's uncalled for, a lot of people take drugs so they should capitalise on it instead and free the weed.

Well ... in Alaska you can grow a small amount for yourself now.
I think as soon as members of older generations pass on there
will be new rules made. You can bet that there is a rough draft
somewhere in Wash D.C on how they will $ tax $ weed & coke.
And they most likely have already picked out those whom will grow ,package, distribute and profit from the stuff. Greedy government lowlifes

Clint is NOT ugly! He's gorgeous...especially in his younger days. Anyway, he's a Californian, not a Texan. Just watched The Good, The Bad and the Ugly last night, which, Stan and I figured out, each relates to a pig, a dog and a sheep, but that's neither here nor there.

I wonder if Jerry Seinfled knows about this, with his Superman fascination and references and all.

Anyway, to get back on subject, I voted for The Civil War. I find the Revolutionary War so overdone. I studied it in 4th grade and then because I moved to a different state/school district, I had to study it again in 9th grade and I absolutely hated it. Our "American History" class in 9th grade was a farce as we never got beyond the Revolutionary War, so I have this big gap missing from my knowledge base, so whatever I've learned I've had to pick up on my own (I did not take history in college because I "hated" it so much from my earlier experiences).

The Civil War was the first of our wars to be photographed. There is something so incredible about those pictures of the soldiers, the hairstyles, the looks in their eyes. Did anyone see the Ken Burns documentary on the Civil War that was broadcast back in the '90s? It was so moving.

I'm not big on the 20th century wars, although I liked eternalechoes' nomination for the Cold War. I'd have to nominate that myself as a runner up, mainly because I lived through it, and oddly enough, feel nostalgic for it in an odd way. Hey, think of all the great music that we discuss here that was created during it!

Very true! This reminds me of the current "War on Terror" somewhat. There is terrorism all over the world, even within the US itself. I doubt that this war can ever be won.

Heh...it was near the beginning of the movie where Tuco (The Ugly--and The Sheep) says in regard to "Blondie" (Eastwood) "he's blond, he smokes a cigar and he's a pig" or something like that. Just got me thinking....

And I didn't get to finish watching it...tornado outside of the city forced us down to the basement. :( Not that I haven't seen it lots of times before.
