I guess with "president" blair strutting around the place and making Claire Short resign the role of our head of state, the Queen, is somewhat diminished. Yet another reason to vote conservative at the next general election here in UK.Tommy wrote:hmm, interesting, although England is one of the last places i would consider a monarchy

Oh right, I didn't realise that. Yeah, that makes sense, really. People who are moving in circles outward.rollinder wrote:People weren't allowed to vote for anyone who was in prison or awaiitng trial & I think they had to be alive as well.marlowe wrote:I notice not many child killers on that top ten. so... the worst briton CAN'T be in prison -- that somehow doesn't make much sense, really. Wouldn't the worst kind of Britons mostly fall into one of three categories: particularly vile or prolific killers / politicians / corporate heads.
further proof at the total irrelevancy of this trite crap that passes for entertainment -- I am still especially chagrined that it was Channel 4 who commisioned this rubbish... they used to be cutting edge, now they mainly rely on sex and glibness.

Ok, The Queen certainly ain't in the ranks of West and Shipman I agree, but for any non-Britons who may be wondering, that woman has had very very precious little to do with her so-called subjects other than IGNORE the hell out of us completeley..........Monarchy in the UK? Ha!!!
She's just a tourist attraction - she doesn't bloody well represent me.
It'll all end in tiaras, etc etc.
QUESTION:Why did Elton sing at Diana's funeral?
ANSWER:Only Queen that gave a f**k

Hi Neil.. nice to see another on the board!!!! I love the Beatles too and go to Liverpool fairly often.Beatle Neil wrote:Monarchy in the UK? Ha!!!

I agree with your sentiments about the royal family.. I've never been a royalist and never will be.' Tourist attraction' sums it up perfectly - the amount of OUR tax money spent on keeping that snotty nosed lot filled up with caviar, champagne and country castles makes my blood boil. There is no need for a royal family in Britain anymore.. they're a bunch of hypocrites at best.
The only Monarch worth its place in the UK happens to be an airline..

The Monarchy represents almost a thousand years of British history, heritage and culture. I feel it is important to have icons to remind and promote such history and our future. It is who we are. You may not like a small proportion of your tax money going to them but I am sure they bring more monoey into the country through tourism.
Anyway, the Queen performs many useful functions and represents our country when Tony is too busy blowing other countries up. She is a great ambassador and I am sure does many great deals behind closed doors for this country.
I think lack of respect for the queen is reflective of the breakdown of society, the commercialisation of our lives, the trivialisation of the family due to TV, video games and other crap.
Respect.
