Several Species........

Post by bmet »

Haven't seen any discussion about this composition yet

I've always loved this Track! They should have comissioned Monty
Python's animator Terry Gilliam to film an animation sequence
with his bizarre drawings to accompany the music-Then have Roger
Waters dressed as a Scotsman (on a Hill) raving away at the end.
An Early Music Video perhaps!!??

Pink Floyd loved Monty Python. They even stopped recording Dark Side of the Moon to watch it. And football games, soccer if your American. ;) PS this is my 100th Post! WOOO HOOO!!!

Turns out they actually didn't, Uncut magazine this month places it in their 10 facts about DSOTM box with a quote from Dave denying it.

The songs really irritates me actually, can't stand it myself. It's just noise that Pink Floyd made just knowing everyone would call it a masterpiece because it's weird.

That is true, I think. I believe that masterpiece is name for something that is too hard to fancy people to understand.

If I made a film where I only stare at the lens and sometimes two naked ladies march across field... well it would be one of the most spectacular masterpieces ever made.

I can't deny that I like films by Andrei Tarkovski and Kubrick but most of the masterpieces are just as empty as letterboxes.

At the end, there is a soft voice which says 'Thank you'. I think it's Roger who thanks the man who did the shouting things. It's not bad, not very good either.

I have it on the WORKS album and it kind of annoys me because interrupts the flow of the music.

I guess you all should have taken a film course in College like I did.
In Audio class we had a project where I used reel to reel audio tape
and did several loops, similar to what Roger did for Several Species..
It was quite fun to watch all these audio tape loops of different sizes travelling continuously around stands, chairs, etc.
Today,I expect the most advanced computer whiz can do all that
work on a computer.Electronic creation replaces the physical
creation I guess!
Also, any fan of humour (ala Monty Python),I would hope, would
like this song!

I must admit to being a tad irritated at how similar it is to the ending of Bike...and I think there's a passing similarity to Pow R Toc H.
