For me, it will always be the chaotic beeping and megaphone chatter that opens Astronomy Domine.

Is it Pow R Toc that has the Doi Doi and quacking sound? The whole thing that follows Bike (I have not listened to TPATGOD in at least six months...guess what I'm listening to tonight?)

Echoes - It can variously be described as seagulls or whales (because there are disagreements in this thread - I don't really care what you think it is, it is quite abstract really) - not necessarily saying it is my favorite.

I still like speak to me and on the run as effects songs.

Actually, I think the effects are an essential aspect of this band - the entire Final Cut album is great for that (Amused to Death is really good for all the effects too).

I imagine it as a gnome at the end of Bike, and even though not techically a sound effect "Silence in the studio" I think that sounds really cool.

The dad reading Eeyore's line from Winnie The Pooh in "Go Fishing" - "'Pathetic', he said, 'that's what it is'".

Spoken intro to "Astronomy Dominee" (fantastic way to start track one, album one)

Clocks on "Time"

Cash registers on "Money"

Wind effect on "One Of These Days"

In the beginning of Dark Side of the Moon just before Breath.

Very good mix effects.

i've always loved the beginning of "welcome to the machine". on the "pros and cons" tour, roger opened with that and you could feel the bass coming up from the floor. i felt it in my chest. i still get goosebumps thinking of it!

Actually, all the sound effects in Granchester Meadows are very nice, but I love the footsteps/mosquito sequence at the end...it underlies the irony of the song, as the singer has been hearing sounds that remind him of a day in the meadow and inviting them into his city room...but maybe he got more than he bargained for!

that is funny, I never thought that through before
but the Nature Jam that follows with all them furry critters continues the Grantchester vibe, just from a different angle this time
dont know why people dont like this particular record, Rogers section is like a early mini-concept album, full of the soundcollages he would make his signature, and as you note a bit of his dark humour in that segue
