Rogers best guitarist?

Post by Neil »

Which guitarist do you prefer Roger to have in his band and therefore which guy would you ideally like Roger to have play lead guitar on his new album?

(PS - I think I've included all the lead guitarists Roger has worked with since going solo.. let me know if I've missed one!!)

Jeff Beck and Snowy White. Can't really decide. I think Jeff Beck is more talanted. But I enjoy Snowy's playing as well. It's very tasteful much like Gilmour's.

Dave doesn't count!!
Sorry I should have said 'other than DG' in the post  O--O

Well, apart from playing a bit of lead during 'Money' - Andy isn't really a lead guitarist..

-Snowy White, Doyle Bramhall 2nd is horrible to me. His technical skill is fine but hes a machine on stage, hes not ceative. Just watch the ITF DVD, he doesnt add or improvise anything and hes got no feeling, (except for the occasional face squint) hes like a dead guy on stage. And his singing isnt to good either!

That's only on ITF...Andy also played on the PACOHH tour and Radio KAOS tour...some more lead work from him here and there, but I think enough to qualify him for some consideration.

After all, Jeff Beck only played on the ATD album...I don't believe he's done any live shows with Roger...and he's being considered.

Just some thoughts.

And I know Gilmour isn't included...I still think he's Roger's best guitarist.

Jeff Beck. Ok, on ATD he may not have put up a brilliant performance, but then again he is one of the finest guitarists to grace our earth so i say him.

May I suggest you watch again? His second solo on SOYCD is nothing BUT improvisation.

Keep in mind that many guitar solos in PF songs might as well be PARTS of the song. The solos in Dogs, for example, should be played a certain way...likewise the first solo of Comfortably Numb and the first solo of Brick 2...ditto the solo in Mother...at least the first solo of SOYCD (although I really think all of the solos are pretty important)...the solo in Time...I think I may have made my point here.

There's really not a lot of room for improvisation in Floyd's music unless you're Gilmour or Wright. But there ARE some spots where anyone can just wail.

While I don't think Bramhall is all that impressive at it, I felt it should be pointed out that he DOES improvise.

Do I just take up too darn much post space at times?

Or is it just me?
