Wearing The Inside Out

Post by Groovybass77 »

i recently got The Division Bell and my favorite song has got to be Wearing the Inside Out. Its so calming. Rick did a great job writing the music. His vocals are very soothing to listen to when I need to relieve stress. I dim the lights at night and put this on the radio and it creates a very peaceful atmosphere. Any recomendation of other Rick material for me to check out? I just might be transforming into a Rick fan! What are your opinions on this song?

I wasnt sure whether to put this under Pink Floyd or Rick, Nick... and i decided to put it here cause it had more to do with Rick that Floyd.

When David sings "look at him now, he's paler somehow, but he's coming around" I get chills. His voice is just delicious. :smt034 :smt007 :smt020 :smt049

I love that quote from Gilmour regarding "Wearing The Inside Out" where he says something to the effect of "everybody who hears it says 'it's that voice, it's that voice that used to be a part of the Pink Floyd sound'." I've always thought that Richard has a very good distinctive singing voice. He adds a unique and effective colour to the harmonies and shared lead vocals (check out "Time", "Matilda Mother", "Echoes"). His voice has an attractive "husky" quality and very good range (Like when he reaches into the stratosphear singing "Arnold Lay-ay-ay-ay-aaayyyyyne" just before the organ solo. Nice!). He didn't take a lot of lead vocals for an entire song, and from the tracks he did it was mostly earlier material at a time when the band was still in search of it's "sound", but the quality of his singing voice was one of the major factors in rising the songs above the mundane, in my opinion (check out "Paintbox, "Remember A Day", "Summer '68", "It Would Be So Nice").

didn't you just posted the same topic on AFG?

Well anyway, all of Rick's solo albums are great, maybe with the exception of Zee.

And do turn in to a Rick fan.

Rick Wright's Best

Post by Kimon »

I think his best works with the Floyd are:
See-Saw
Paintbox
Summer '68
his contribution in Echoes (his vocals too)
Mudmen
Stay
Breathe, Time (especially his vocals), The Great Gig in the Sky (obviously), Us and Them (both keyboards and vocal harmonies), keyboards and harmonies on Eclipse
His solos on Shine On
His solo on Sheep
His solos on In the Flesh?, Another Brick on the Wall pt. 3 and Run Like Hell.
His vocal on Wearing the Inside Out
And of course many more...

Wearing the Inside Out

Post by Kimon »

Here it is!
Won?t hear a sound He?s curled into the corner
From my mouth But still the sceen is flickering
I?ve spent too long With an endless stream of carbage to
On the inside out ... curse the place
My skin is cold In a sea of random images
To the human touch The self-destructing animal
This bleeding heart?s Waiting for the waves to break
Not beating much

I?m holding out He?s standing on the threshold
For the day Caught in fiery anger
When all the clouds And hurled into the furnace
Have blown away ... curse the place
I?m with you now He?s torn in all directions
Can speak your name And still the screen is flickering
Now we can hear Waiting for the flames to break
Ourselves again

I think you will find that is was Snowy White on Wet Dreams - DG was busy doing his own solo album at the time

It is available on DVD!

It's called David Gilmour In Concert and it was officially released a few years ago.
