Ummagumma (a Rick Wright idea)

Post by Kimon »

What's your opinion on Ummagumma. It was one of the few Rick Wright's ideas and many fans or even band members think of ita as an absolute disster. For some other funs, including myself, it was a very interesting experiment which revealed the capabilities of each member.

I think it's great! I'm not too keen on Sysyphus or The Narrow Way, though..

I love Ummagumma, it's one of my favourite Floyd albums. The live disc features some of the best live versions of their classic spacerock/psychedelic stuff, and the studio side is a fascinating journey, to me anyway. IMO, each of the member's solo contributions are unique and different from the other's, yet the whole thing works well as a varied yet cohesive pyschedelic oddessy. Ummagumma was actually quite a popular release as far as pre-DSOTM albums go, and was very influential on the fledgling Krautrock movement in Germany as well.

Thanks for your answers. I'd like to know your opinion for the other poll I have given (Syd's closest bandmate). Ummagumma is indeed a very good album.

excellent record
I wish theyd put out more experimental albums and hadnt got so focussed on overproduced grand statements
like they could have put out Household Objects during the 2 1/2 yr break between DSotM and WYWH
best song: Several Species

that would be PATGOD...
really though, i like a track or 2 off it but would much rather listen to the more "popular" albums. i bought the remaster or something a few years ago and might have listed to it 2-3 times, never in full becouse it gets too old too quick for me. but then again i prefer 1970-77 era floyd over anything else

I've listened to this (studio) album and i've tried to like it but I just can't. Some of the tracks are nice, but its just a little bit too random, and also a bit unispiring, IMO.

It's my least favorite Pink Floyd album, but I still like it (I would say it's the only Pink Floyd album that's a 3/5). I really like Rick's and David's songs, Several Species is odd but cool to listen to it. I just don't like Grantchester Meadows or any of Nick's stuff.
