Competition: Win Abbey Road Studio Time and Thorgerson Art!!

Arnold Layne Competition ? Win A Day in the Life at Abbey Road AND Your Own Storm Logo!

EMI UK has come up with a fun competition for musical combos to win a day's recording in Abbey Road Studios by creating their very own version of Arnold Layne.

Famed Pink Floyd and ex-Hipgnosis designer Storm Thorgerson has also agreed to design a new logo for the winners, which is a prize worth entering for alone.

The idea is that ANY musical entity can enter any version they like (as long as it's their own recording) of Arnold Layne, which they can then upload to a special MySpace page.

All the rules are there, but essentially: you record it; you post it; the numbers get whittled down; and David himself will judge the winner from the Top 3. Winners get a free day recording at Abbey Road, plus a free band logo by the legend that is Storm Thorgerson.

The entrance page has links to the video, the sheet music, the iTunes original, and a pre-order for the digital version of the new Arnold Layne single. The competition runs until Monday 22nd January, so check it out.

You can listen to the current entries here > http://www.davidgilmour.com/arnoldlayne/

Damn, I wish I the time, the equipment, and the people.

I have a feeling all the cover bands will jump on this bandwagon.

I know I've got very little chance, but I'm giving it a try anyway!

Anyone noticed anything strange about the current entries - like there are only three of them and none of them are actually Arnold Layne? Seems like people aren't reading the rules of the competition, and neither are the people voting for them. Or people are just using it to get more exposure for their own songs.

Looks like it's just going to go to whichever band has the biggest existing MySpace following, anyway. Hopefully at least bands that have uploaded the wrong song will be disqualified.

I think they are just horrible little spamming people after free advertising. Fools!! I would have thought the submissions would have to be approved first before they go up on the site! How odd!

I suspect there is some cheating going on at the top - those versions in the top four are rubbish....

its just a matter of musical taste...

these perforances yo've mentioned are as expected!!
Rockfour brings somthing from itself, something fresh, something from its own style with a loyalty to the Syd Barrett spirit!!!

I want to hear pls more opinions...

Arnold layne competition

Post by yobgi »

Sorry guys, but I think you don't understand what all this competition all about, these Airbag, and they really good musicians-no doubt about it, record their version almost the same as the original + a guitar solo inside, this cover sounds great but misses the point....I didn't heard anything special or a new interpretation to this legend song.
Listen again to Rockfour's version (give them your vote - if you like) see the different - this is a great interpretation!!!
