Win studio time @ Abbey Road!

Click Here to Learn about a Competition to see who can make the best cover of Arnold Layne!
http://www.myspace.com/arnoldlaynecompetition

The following is from the MySpace page on this competition (please note that there are references to "links" or "click here" in this text -- you need to go to the MySpace page to get these links -- no hypertext is included below)

Follow in the steps of Pink Floyd & win a day in Abbey Road!

Originally released in 1967, 'Arnold Layne' was Pink Floyd's debut single, launching one of the world's most respected & influential bands. Written by Syd Barrett, the band's legendary co-founder and original front man, the track is frequently cited as one of the finest psychedelic pop songs of its time.!

On the 25th of December David Gilmour, with notable friends David Bowie & Richard Wright, will release their recording of this classic. (... One for you rock trivia fans - Syd Barrett had a major impact on Bowie who consequently named his 1971 pre-Spiders From Mars band Arnold Corns after the song).!

To celebrate this we're giving a MySpace band the chance to win a 'money can't buy' session at the world famous Abbey Road studios in London. We're asking you to cover this classic track. The best interpretation, as judged by a combination of MySpace users, ourselves & David Gilmour himself, will win both the studio time & the opportunity to have a logo designed by Storm Thorgerson. Originally part of the Hipgnosis design team (with Aubrey Powell), Storm has designed or co-designed most of the Floyd sleeves since A Saucerful Of Secrets, and consequently some of the most famous sleeves in rock history, not least The Dark Side of the Moon.!

So don't delay - here's what you need to do... !

If you're not already familiar with the track you can watch the video here (hi) or here (lo) or download the original from iTunes - there's also sheet music available from here. David's version isn't released until the 25th Dec although you can place a pre-order, which also gets you immediate access to a video exclusive.

If you're interested in the background to the track there's a good entry on Wikipedia.

Once you've recorded your cover you'll need to upload it here (as an mp3). This will also get you a personalised audio player, which lets others hear your track & has a voting button. The player comes with all the code. You need to post it on your MySpace page so you get all your friends to listen & vote. It also features a voting button which will score how other users rate your track. At the end of the competition we'll add up the votes & the three highest scoring covers will go to David himself to select a final winner. You've got until the 15th Jan 2007 to enter & we'll be announcing the winner a couple of weeks later - so... best of luck & look forward to hearing your covers...

Timeline:

Launches 18/12/06

Closes 22/1/07

Winner announced - 07/02/07
