Not at Christmas...but for my 17th birthday, my then boyfriend gave me a copy of Madonna's Erotica on cassette. I was repulsed.
I also received a Color Me Badd cassette on my 16th from a friend. Horrible. Just terrible. What were they thinking?

I thought I would never receive a decent album as a gift, until this past year, when one of my MySpace friends sent me Dave's "On An Island" in the mail. Thank God for that. Maybe there is hope for my future album-receiving.

I never get albums as gifts, not for many, many years. No one knows what to get me. They're afraid that either I'll already have it or it's so obscure they won't even know what to ask for. The last one I got was about 20 years ago, my Dad got me Klaus Schulze's Angst on vinyl. Good on him for tracking down an expensive import by an artist he'd never heard before!

I got no albums for Christmas this year, suprisingly. I got a couple of music DVDs, though.

That is an advantage I have with my Aspergers/Autism is that I can remember what I got when I got it and so on. Thing is, I pick out my gifts so then my dad goes out to pick them up or order online. Then my mother would buy my clothes, my dad would take care of musical end. Family members would get me either clothes or an extra CD case or more CDs/cassettes.

When I was in high school, I was just getting into Yes, and there was a particular Yes album I wanted (it had Roundabout on it, but at the time I didn't know the album name was Fragile...we didn't have the Internet back then to look these things up instantly!). So I put on my Christmas list Albums: Yes (that's the name of the band!) - don't get it yet, because I didn't want my mom going out and buying just any Yes album. My mom went to the record store and asked if they had "Don't Get It Yet" by Yes. She was mortally embarrassed when the guy at the store said, "I think he means he doesn't want you to buy it yet!" She has never got me an album as a gift ever since then.

8) I'm glad you got that one... "In a Sentimental Mood" is a perfect recording. Listen to Duke at the end of "My Little Brown Book"--some of the most haunting piano I've heard.
