Well, we took Echoes out for a test-drive & it was sublime; stuck to the Meddle format, reworked the end which fades & the punters in Ipswich seemed to just trip away - I could almost smell the patchouli!
Dave
I'd still like to hear the version with the sax tho'. Oh! & the biggest reaction was in & after GGITS - & Why not, eh?

Nice one Dave, glad it went well!
We're out this weekend, playing a fantastic little theatre in Builth Wells, Powys... After a quick re-jig of the setlist, we're gonna be trying an new opener.
We've always set our gigs off with 'Astronomy Domine', however, this week we thought we'd try something a little bit different... 'Shine on'!!
Fingers crossed we don't muck up the beginning! ; )
Take it easy - Jim

Shine On is a great opener in a theatre setting, we spent an absolute age programming lighting fx to look like a dawn the last time we hired a Theatre (which was probably lost on all the people there - such is art! sigh) I'm sure that it'll work out fine dude.
BTW Did Stevie G's mother have a bike? I know mine did!

On the subject of "arrangements".........
I've no video or sound evidence to support this but we have just added "See Emily play" to the repertoire. Up to now I've held the opinion that because we're an eight piece, the earlier music just wasn't gonna work for us; I've had to rethink my position (gladly).
We were asked to perform "Emily" by a chap at Leeds College of Technology as part of a celebration of the 40 years since it was written at the very same College; they were unveiling a plaque - that sort of thing. Initially we couldn't do the date they wanted & I put them in touch with some other bands to try & cover it - We'd never played the song & had no plans to do so.
Eventually the guy came back & asked what date we COULD do; it seemed like it would be a missed opportunity if no-one could play the song so I said "OK, we'll do it". Unfortunately there wasn't a lot of time & we actually only had two hours on the the Thursday to rehearse it before we went up on the Friday to play it at the celebration.
It went fine though - a lot of fun - we then added it to the set for a gig the following night for a brotherhood of bikers - it was one of the most talked about numbers of the night - it's just a shame that by the time you get into it, it's almost over, but all eight of us play a part in it to good effect so I've had to change my mind & I suppose Arnold'll be the next one - may even talk the band into some major controversy & do Veg Man!
