Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun

Post by drafsack »

Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun has got to be one of PF most enduring songs, released in 1968 it was a staple favourite right up untill the 1973 tours as it gave the band the freedom to "freak out". Dropped from the 74 tour as the band had settled into playing New stuff/Current album in the first half of a show and playing the last album in the second half. It lost out to Echoes as Echoes is a natural song to encour with but it must be one of rogers favourites as he has played it during his solo tours. When he played it at the NEC last year it sounded as fantastic as ever - Thanks Rog for keeping this Floyd favourite alive. (eighteen)

I never get tired of listening to it. I wish they never dropped it from the set list in the first place. It's a great song to open a show with.........it puts you in the mood. I'm glad Roger still plays it as well :)

I like it, I mostly play it when I'm sort of ...out of it... just is a good, mellow, surreal song. It's not one I really sing to.

Yeah, I love Set the Controls...it has this hypnotic, kind of middle eastern flair..I really like it.

Its a timeless song ....

I think that Roger puts much more of an Eastern sound to it these days, and its all the better for it!

I don't like it much, it's just to repetitive and fails to really go anywhere. It barely has a conclusion to speak off and Roger's vocals aren't to strong.

It's a lot better live though. Especially on Roger's ITF cd where his voice sounds a bit more passionate and in to the song.
