At The End Of The Division Bell...

Post by Charade I am »

Who are the people that talk at end of the Division Bell? I hear a voice of a man an a little girl. Does anybody know who they are and what they are talking about? Are they asking for some Charlie?

Charlie is the son of Polly Sampson's that Gilmour adopted...he is the child you hear speaking.

The other voice belongs to Steve O'Rourke and reportedly, this bit was put at the end of the album to satisfy Steve's request that he appear on a PF album.

Here is the conversation:

Steve: Hello?
Charlie: Yeah.
Steve: Is that Charlie?
Charlie: Yes.
Steve: Hello Charlie.
[Charlie hangs up.]
Steve: Great.

I wonder if they were acting and they told Charlie to hang up before the recording or that conversation happened naturally...

I remember reading somewhere, that Charlie wanted to appear on the album. And the conversation happened naturally. Gilmour put it on the album to portray being disturbed by someone.

It wasn't Charlie who wanted to appear on the album.....he was only 3 years old..... As Mosespa said above, Steve O'Rourke wanted to appear on a Pink Floyd album after being their manager for so long.
The conversation is an example of broken communication, which is the main theme of the album

I didn't got that from the songs on the album, but when I'm thinking on it: I understand songs as Keep Talking better.
