I've been thinking how ironic that the person who hated touring and interacting with the audience so much he created a wall is the same person who has toured the most since the demise of pf.
Is he power hungry? Narcissistic? Or just a creative artist who must create? What do the rest of you think?

Re: The irony of Roger
He may not be the same person since then...he got the idea for The Wall over 30 years ago. He's even said the last two Pink Floyd tours might have been a good thing.
I don't think the audiences at 1977 Pink Floyd shows were the same as they are today either. People who go to see PF, David or Roger today actually care about the music rather than lighting off fireworks and screaming like they used to.
(He's also had a lot of therapy apparently.)

Yes, the most, but I wouldn't say often enough... I think he's an artist, whose relaxation and work on matetial take a bit longer than for others (in such a background even Rage Against The Machine or Nine Inch Nails graphics would seem "tight" ) .Iluvpinkfloyd wrote:I've been thinking how ironic that the person who hated touring and interacting with the audience so much he created a wall is the same person who has toured the most since the demise of pf.

Agreed. It's all about money, as his opera was hated by the world.

I think its weird that he avoids talking about some Pink Floyd issues because of his therapy. Therapy cannot cure ego; it is not an illness, just ignorance. Waters, you are great, but you are no king.Freddie Mercury wrote: (He's also had a lot of therapy apparently.)

First of all, you are operating under a misconception.Iluvpinkfloyd wrote:I've been thinking how ironic that the person who hated touring and interacting with the audience so much he created a wall is the same person who has toured the most since the demise of pf.

Roger didn't hate TOURING...he hated touring HUGE STADIUMS where people were there more for the beer and the party and the "coolness factor" than for the music.
Roger didn't hate interacting with the audience. He hated the fact that touring stadiums reduced the connection that he felt to his audience...he hated the fact that interaction with his audience became impossible.
That's why he built a wall...to show his audience something that he was aware of, yet they were not.
Finally, Rock And Roll is not a job that one retires from. You either die young or keep making music until you finally do die.
What is Roger Waters supposed to do? Go sit in a room of his house and drink tea until the Reaper comes for him?
He's an artist...creating art is what he does. Some people could say that he's just been riding the nostalgia train for the last eight years. But they'd be wrong.
Although Roger hasn't released a new album in something like fourteen years, each tour has brought with it some new material.
The In The Flesh tours had "Each Small Candle" and, I think "Flickering Flame" early on.
This new tour has "Leaving Beirut."
Sure, the majority of the shows has been Floyd songs and maybe a little solo material here and there, but he IS bringing new material to the shows. So it's not a total "nostalgia trip cash in."
Hopefully, after this tour wraps up, he'll either finish Hearland, or turn in a whole different project.
I suspect that we have finally reached a point in human history where the world is changing faster than Waters can write about it.

I am glad that he still tours. When the Beatles got sick of their audience, they stopped completely.mosespa wrote: Roger didn't hate TOURING...he hated touring HUGE STADIUMS where people were there more for the beer and the party and the "coolness factor" than for the music.

Being into "it" for the money, and not releasing new albums... not a very good combination, don't you think ?PublicImage wrote:Because he is too lazy, probably.

Roger has always been a hypocrite. He always rants about Socialist idea's and understanding yet was the Stalin of Pink Floyd and couldnt work with the rest of the band.
