There was also a version that this word comes from Frank Herbert's "Dune", but probably it was only to avoid censorship ...

Speaking of which, I read that in the 70s Pink Floyd was originally considered to be used to provide the soundtrack for a Dune movie (before the well-known 1982 David Lynch version).

i thought "umma-gumma" is the sounds that creatures under the cam bridge made in a tale...or something...i read something about that in "saucerful of secrets: the pink floyd oddessey"...but i could be wrong
