The Syd Barrett Q & A Thread

Post by danielcaux »

Ok, I thought it would be useful to have a FACTS oriented thread were anyone can post a quick question and other more knowledgeable people can give straight answers or thoughts about it. KEEP SPECULATION TO A MINIMUM.

Here's the first one:

-What's the story behind the "obligatory" Hendrix perm? Was it some kind of 60's fad that a lot of people followed, or was Syd, Mitch and Noel's take on the Hendrix look? Why he did it?

That's a good question, DC. I imagine that it was a 60's fad. People do it even today (see PIs' avatar!).
I only know about the inevitable pinhole burns.... 8) 8)

Yeah, it was just a 60's fad. A lot of rock stars did it back then and still do it today.

Here is a question:

As you all know, Piper At The Gates Of Dawn was named after a chapter of the book "Wind In The Willows." Does anyone know if the title was chosen because it seemed like a cool title, or because of the meaning behind the chapter of that book, where the characters have an epiphany on the way to rescue an animal in distress?

Chapter 7 of Graham's book is entitled "Piper at the Gates of Dawn." As it was one of Syd's favourite childhood books, he selected that title.
