Yeah, I liked your post, but I really liked your number. I was just hoping you'd explain it; you know, humor us. But we all know the meaning of the number. :D

If you read Wind in the Willows you will find that the chapter Piper at the Gates of Dawn veers away from the story line of the book. It is more or less a dream like sequence, a fantasy or as Syd may have thought a trip. I think it may have been the reason why he named the album after that particular chapter.

That about sums it up!

BTW, the Hendrix perm was apparently suggested by his girlfriend at the time (I believe she also got her own hair shortened and permed too) most likely as a result of Hendrix's growing influence on youth culture at the time.

I idolize Syd as well. His brilliance that bordered on insanity was truly amazing. You don't find that too often at all. Just goes to show you that there is indeed a fine line.

Jaa. Yes he did, beside being a folk-rocker (let's admit Syd was something alike in his solo works), he used to talk a lot about Syd, as his wife remembers.

Here's the first one:

-What's the story behind the "obligatory" Hendrix perm? Was it some kind of 60's fad that a lot of people followed, or was Syd, Mitch and Noel's take on the Hendrix look? Why he did it?
They all wanted to be Bob Dylan, who I believe started it.
