Re: what has his music done for you
I only started listening to Syd's music at the start of this year. Since then I have started drawing portraits again (the first of
Syd himself). Has been along time, as lost alot of confidence in my creative abilites since art college 9 years ago. Also about to get guitar lessons, have not played since I was 17, now I'm 30.
So you can see his music has turned my life around, or back the way it was years ago, which ever way you want to look at it
He will continue to inspire me

Re: what has his music done for you
I went through a similar period myself but with music. I started writing and performing again for the first time in almost 10 years. I have decided to make it my career and am making a decent living from it now. Syd has been a good creative example for me as well and I have learned a lot from his music. It has taught me to not be so rigid and structured, but to break the rules every now and then, to rebel against conformity and create things that are uniquely beautiful. The Crow Scare wrote:Has been along time, as lost alot of confidence in my creative abilites since art college 9 years ago.

Today I bought Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Unlike anything I have ever heard. I think what Syd is teaching us is to think, question everything.

but youre dying in itself will cause sadness for those around you, but if you didnt have people around you then it would be dificult to find hapiness in the first placemoom wrote:I have stricted rules for dying happy

Syd's lyrics are cool. Simple and expressive; a great insight to the artist, himself... In honour of that, I named my 3rd daughter Emily... ( she's often inclined to borrow somebody's dreams til tomorrow)

As a novice guitar player who's a far cry from David Gilmour, I find his songs are nice and easy to play.

I first heard Pink Floyd with Syd when I was about 10. I have known since then that the rules of music and songwriting aren't carved in stone.

I find his solo work to be as excellent as his Pink Floyd contributions. It's hard to top 'Effervescing Elephant'

That's my least favourite solo Syd song (say that 10 times fast).heathenchemistry wrote:It's hard to top 'Effervescing Elephant'
