Subtitles:

"I run a lot of expensive, high-end shit that requires a really fast, powerful computer."

How was that translation?

Become technologically aware, then, you fool!

*Actually, "then" is the wrong word. It should be "now".

I resemble that remark. I am totally technologically incompetent, and not ashamed to admit it.

Better get back on topic!

Erm...good luck Keith! I'm sure Bob and Geoff have given you great advice! :D

Oh NO! You did not call Teresa a fool. The hounds of NPF will be on your heels for the rest of eternity. You will forever wish that you had the fate of Sysiphus.

bpmolder wrote:Yeah, right after I posted those steps, I read Keith's post, and as soon as I saw that he only had half a gig of memory, I knew that was it. Most newer audio programs will just laugh in your face if you try to run them on any more than a gig, and 2 gigs is preferred. I run a AMD double core processor with 2 gigs of DDR RAM on a Windows 2000 OS. I have the audiophile USB external sound card for recording and about $5000 worth of VST instruments and effects running, including Edirol Personal Orchestra. I record with Acid Pro, Cubase and Abelton Live. With all that, and properly tweaked settings, my resource usage never goes above 40%. The ASIO For ALL driver allows me to switch between 2 sound cards, 3 recording programs, and over 30 VSTs and effects with just single clicks. It automatically adapts to what I have running.
I think I had best get a screwdriver and some more RAM then for the laptop then!! But saying that, the resource meter rarely goes near 50% and when I am recording, it is down way low! It introduces clicks even when recording one track!!

I may try formatting my hard drive at the weekend and installing everything fresh! It didnt use to introduce clicks! Perhaps a good clean registry and freshly installed hardware will do the trick! Else I shall have to add more RAM!! 8)

EDIT: Oh yes, you lot should stay on topic, especially in my threads!

RAM is a must. As far as reformatting, you might not need to do that. Try defragmenting first, and make your swap file size bigger. Most of the time, that will eliminate extra hard drive latency.

I will get another 512MB of RAM to take me just over the 1GB mark. I will get that on my way home from work. I think my laptop wants PC2700 DDR memory according to the http://www.crucial.com website. I could be wrong.... but then again, I could be right! Mmmmm!

I have a Toshiba Satellite P30 which I think has a spare expansion slot thing available. Time for the screwdrivers to come out!!!!
